Taormina is filled with wonderful Roman Catholic churches. Each one has its own charm, including this one Santa Catarina. And they are all free to visit. Many have gorgeous statues, oil paintings, and mosaics. I suggest you visit any with an open door.

We stopped by Santa Caterina while strolling through the streets of Taormina. It was very nice and worth a stop if you are walking by, but probably not worth a special trip just to see it. But it is on the way to the Greek...More

This small church on the main street of Taormina always has it's door open. Step inside for a quiet moment away from the hordes of tourists. A large simple, yet classic, center chandelier hangs from the dark wooden ceiling. You'll get the feeling of stepping...More

We used this beautiful little church in our navigation of the streets of Taormina. Our hotel was just above it and the shopping areas were adjacent. We saw lots of weddings, here and at the other churches.

Unlike so many churches, Santa Catarina always seems to be open. Two interesting modern paintings at back of the church, either side of the entrance; one is a powerful , calvary subject , dark and full of pathos - the other a kitsch Madonna -...More

The church looks old and pretty from the outside. Has a good location and is free to visit. Not much more to be said about it...

Although Taormina has numerous churches, this is one pretty lovely specimen and it's standing out. Also, it's the first church you'll come across if you're entering Taormina via Porta Messina.
