Although we were not present at noon to see the full performance ( out busy exploring the villages at that time). We were there in the evening and did witness the clock go off on the hour. It is a beautiful clock, the plaza is...More

The bell tower has a mechanically moving and animated figures, some of which move every time the bell strikes but the major display happens at noon every day. Whilst to modern computer society the action can be described as bland or corny, the sheer workmanship...More

However, there are small actions every 15 minutes. Just not the full amazing spectacle. I am going to have to watch it on YouTube!

Many reviews talk about the noon time music where the clock operates in sync. What I didn't realize is that you can climb to the top of the tower and it is well worth it. You get to see behind the clock and the view...More

When the crowds started arriving and tower started to sound. it was magical. We stopped shopping and watch with everyone else. Maybe a little longer than same.

An incredible spectacle. A must see if you are visiting Messina. At noon a lion roars, a cock crows, and animated figures come to life to the sound of Ave Maria! Totally unique!

At 12 noon, this clock chimes in such a way that I've never seen. A lion roars 3 times, then a rooster crows and then other things move around. Fascinating.

You can imagine the spectacle when the clock chimes the hour. Each part moves and highlights include the lion at the top roaring three times. Totally amazing!

Obviously worth timing your visit to see/hear it at the top of an hour if you can. I spent very little time here, but was glad that I took a few minutes to admire it.

We visited this on a segway tour. The interior of the church is lovely, and at noon every day the bell tower puts on a show, with multiple figures emerging from the tower and doing little things. A must see in Messina.
