Obviously worth timing your visit to see/hear it at the top of an hour if you can. I spent very little time here, but was glad that I took a few minutes to admire it.

We visited this on a segway tour. The interior of the church is lovely, and at noon every day the bell tower puts on a show, with multiple figures emerging from the tower and doing little things. A must see in Messina.

Sit on the Piazza bench and watch the clock on the hour. At noon it puts on biggest show. You can also climb the stairs for a fee, which would be fun if you have good knees.

Best to arrive at noon when all the figures move. At the quarter hour just on level of the figures move. Still nice. The hop on hop off toys start in this square.

There were lots of street vendors around the Bell Tower. Most are probably illegal (unauthorized resellers). Overall, it was worth seeing. It was one of our ports of call on our cruise.

Our group stopped in Messina to visit the Duomo. I was very impressed with the Bell Tower. The moving parts include figures starting as a young person and progressing to an old man. This is certainly a big part of the Duomo visit.

This is a must see sight in Messina. Just be there for 12 O'Clock. Most amazing Astronomical clock. It lasts 12 minutes. The highlights includes: The lion waves the flag, moves it tail, turns his head and roars three times. Rooster raises its head and...More
