The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

    2 Thumbs Up!
Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli is known as the "marble church" and is early Venetian Renaissance. Fifty-two wooden panels depicting saints and prophets stare down to you from the ceiling and makes you appreciate the time and energy it took to create this masterpiece. Restore Venice spent 7 years bringing this work gem to life and to keep it from falling down because of how much salt had accumulated into the marble. The restoration was calculated to cost 1 million dollars, and the final cost was 4 million dollars! Built in the 15-century, this special place of worship will hopefully live another 1,000 years.

A jewel box as much as a church
A must on every visit to Venice, Santa Maria dei Miracili never fails to satisfy. It is a refined and elegant piece of architecture encased in marble with a stunning ceiling. Go outside to the south side and you can clearly see the remains of the convent to which it was attached. You can now purchase tickets that allow visitation go several churches, a great idea.

    Treasure chest looking facade
We discovered this church during our Venice walking tour. This cute church has a treasure chest looking facade It was built in the 15th century, it has remained original and preserved. Both the interior and the facade is sculpted with multi-colored marble. Really worth a look whilst in Venice.

Unique Venetian renaissance church in Cannaregio built around a miracle-inducing Madonna painting. Made of rare marble, painted saints on the ceiling; the Madonna is beautiful.

The church looks very beautiful from outside. It is necessary to pay entrance to enter it however it is a small church so when you go inside to pay entrance you can pretty much see everything so in this case it was not worth it for me because I was also in a hurry.

Situated in a quiet area and taking a little effort to find. It is a unique building composed entirely of marble. Lacking the normal decorations that you might expect to find in a Venetian church, the building itself is the decoration. Inside and outside all you see is marble. The canals also pass closely to the structure and it is very picturesque when a gondola passes by.

The church is part of the Chorus ticket, and is among the most interesting in Venice, with an unusual marble interior, practically without decorations, and raised altar.

This church has no notable artworks (unlike many Venice churches), but it is not to be missed by any fan of Renaissance architecture. It is an amazing gem with an all-marble interior. It took my breath away with its beauty.
