Magnificum hunc fontem
Cum acquarum perpetuo cursu .
These latin words can be seen on the basemet of the beatiful fountain .
The bronze statue is a copy of the original that can be seen few step away, inside the courtyard of Palace Thun

This fountain is in the center of the city, just in front of the cathdral. This is an icon of the city and it was partially covered when I visited.

Initially this fountain was built in 1768 to bring continuous fresh water supply into Trento. The fountain was damaged over the centuries and was replaced in 1945 by this copy. We sat around this beautiful fountain for a long time! It's the type of scene you make your screen saver. The trickling / sprouting water, the creatures and of course Neptune.

Take some time while in Trento to visit this beautiful fountain. I walked around it looking closely at the details of this grand structure.

This pretty fountain is set in a lovely piazza, some have said the nicest in Northern Italy? Not sure of that as there are so many lovely ones all around Italy! Very intersting though.

Standing dominantly in front of the cathedral in Piazza Duomo is the statue of Neptune, at the centre of an ornamental fountain.

It’s typical of the style found in several medieval Italian cities, and is worth a passing gaze or two. But it’s not a destination as such – more something to enjoy for a few moments while passing by. Or perhaps savour a longer reflection while enjoying a drink at one of the several cafes that line the piazza.

This is a big attraction in the main square. The water is a much appreciated source of refreshment on a hot summer day for the young and the old. It is a fun way to pass some time, enjoying a refreshment in a cafe and watching all the tourists coming and going from this wonderful fountain.

From the moment I started researching Trento as a place to visit, I decided that I wanted to see this statue and fountain "in the flesh".
It did not disappoint me when I did finally get to see it, the detail on the carvings is beautiful and it compliments the piazza in which it stands. Although we saw it on a very cold and grey winter day, seeing the Neptune Statue warmed us up!
