Not only does this island host a basilica but it has lots of little cobbled streets and the occasional shop. This island has such a calming atmosphere, I loved just walking around soaking in the rays and the interesting angles and views. Easily accessible by...More

Great island - direct boats from Orta San Giulio. Good for walking around, especially when the weather is nice.

It's a very small island with one impressive cathedral, one so-so gift shop, and a walk that goes around the island with countless quotes about the importance of silence.

I loved my stay at Lake Orta and the visit to San Giulio island is a must. To be honest it's a mildly interesting walk round a small island before catching the ferry back to Orta. Do it but don't expect too much.

The Giulio Island is small but very charming. There is the lovely St. Giulio church with wonderful frescoes that is a must see. There is one cute shop run by one of two inhabitants on the island. Take the ferry over and enjoy.

San Giulio Island is extremely small, it takes around 10 minutes to walk around it, and it is only 5 minutes by boat from the town of Orta. The island is home to an active Benedictine Monastery and you need to keep that in mind....More

A fascinating small island close to Orta, it is well worth the short trip via ferry or water taxi from Orta. Given its small size you may run the risk of being swamped by larger tour groups, however despite this it is a fascinating place...More

After spending some time in Orta, my wife and I jumped on a small boat to Isola San Giulio and I think it is a really nice place to visit. The island is small - you will need less than an hour to visit it...More

We took the public taxi boat over to the island. It took fifteen minutes from Pella where we were staying. We went into the church ( shorts forbidden) and walked around the island ( 15 mins max) and although there were some bars to sit...More

Getting the ferry from Orta costs around €4 and takes only a few minutes. Once there, there's one path to take you around the whole island, which takes perhaps half an hour in total. The basilica is worth visiting, as are the small paths and...More

There is a convenient covered pay parking at the entrance to the village of Orta. It is very convenient because there is little way to go on foot to get to the marina. However, I do not remember the cost of parking.

The boat goes to the island and back. I think there is another type of boat that does a longer trip around some of the lake.

First thing, car parking is as you drive down to Orta, there are open air and multi storey pay car parks which are quite convenient. It is a short walk down to the town and you should enjoy that too, many interesting places... More
