Wonderful staff

We visited mainly for the art museum, which is partly closed. The art museum is fine. However, we liked the parliament room, but for us the highlight was the archaeological museum. There are simply wonderful exhibits of glass, jewellery and ceramics. The staff were so friendly and informative but it will definitely help if you can speak Italian. Having climbed up on a hot, sultry day we then spotted that there is a free shuttle bus!

Mostly local artists but some gems

I liked this gallery which I visited especially to see the single work it has by Caravaggio but it had lots of other interesting paintings and some nice works by Tiepolo also so well worth a visit.
It was a quiet day when I was there and it was a little disconcerting to be followed around closely by a guard from room to room - he obviously had no one else to watch although he eventually stopped.

Overlooked Gem + great views of the city

We had a bad weather day in Udine, and were looking for something to do indoors. We decided on the City Museums in the castle above the city, and were not disappointed. There are 4 different museums housed in the same building. We were particularly tacken by the archaeology museum which was exceptionally well curated and featured a number of lifelike video displays of modern day Italian scientists and anthropologists. It helps to speak a little Italian. There is not a lot of English signage.

Archaeology collections in Udine
Sep 2016 • Business
A sixteenth-century construction holds a nice anthology of findings coming from great local collections. A good didactic system introduces objects and history of the collections with profiles of the main collectors and local archaeogists. An interesting tranche of history!

Regional Museum

This fairly large Museum is located in an old Castle on a hill overlooking the city of Udine.
There is a small archeological section as well as an exhibition focused on the Italian revolution in the middle of the XIXth century.
The fine arts collection focuses mostly on paintings of a religious character .
Many displays are in the dark until a motion detector triggers the lights to come on.
Most of the works are second rate, quite a few are directly connected to Udine.
The top floor holds a collection of engravings and old photographs.

Don't forget the several museums, located in Udine Castle
Sep 2015 • Couples
After the climb uphill to the Piazzale del Castello, you can enjoy the view over Udine, enjoy a meal in Casa del Contadinanza, but don't forget, that the castle houses several museums, where the Museo di Risorgimento (the museum about the Italian Unity Movement, led by Garibaldi) is in my opinion the most appealing for those interested in Italian history.
