Take in the highlights of Ravenna in just hours without the hassle of following a map and guidebook with this walking tour through the historic center. Admire the UNESCO-listed Byzantine mosaics in the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare, Basilica of San Vitale, and Mausoleum of Galla Placidia; stop at Dante’s tomb; and stroll through the city’s lanes to sample local specialties like piadina flatbread and traditional cheeses.

Built by the Arians, thr mosaics it contains are great examples of their depicting Jesus as a human form. But since it was built by this group of somewhat persecuted people, the walls have been mostly stripped bare of everything and it was an outbuilding for the church next door for centuries. The ceiling is about the only reason to visit here and it is spectacular but not necessarily for anyone but the biggest mosaic fans. But it's only a couple of Euro to get in and I do like that the entrance fee really feels like it's going to maintain this UNESCO site that did not seem to get as much foot traffic as the rest, probably due to not being part of the combo ticket.

This is not the easiest of places to find but well worth a visit as less people tend to go to the building.

More wonders in Ravenna - and another very peaceful and contemplative space in Ravenna. The ceiling is sensational and a fantastic real-life example of Arianism and how important a liturgical dispute this was in the nascent years of Christianity.
