This Duomo is really a jewel of Romanesque architecture and fortunately it has not been carelessly "modernized" over the centuries like some churches. Lots of the exterior stonework and sculpture was removed at one time to preserve it from environmental deterioration but it is conserved...More

We wanted to visit the Duomo and the related museum, but had a very bad surprise: both are closed for lunch (from around 1pm till 3:30pm). So was the tourist office. Since we had only a few hours to spend there, we just had the...More

It is an imposing building from the outside but it is when you get up close that you see the intricacy and detail of the carvings. Lovely.

The square is lovely, but it is the lions that make this special. There are at least 4 pairs on 4 sides -- and maybe another pair up high. They are wonderful -- each pair is different. The big guys on the piazza are fabulous....More

The tilting spire is mesmerising but as you enter the Duomo you are confronted with scaffolding to the roof. Still, it's worth a visit to the chapel behind the alter.

Lovely church with nice old artworks. Restoration goinng on everywhere so there was not much left for us to see. But, when the work is done, I believe it will be fascinating. Much more interesting than the big cathedrals.

Wonderful stone carvings ... often of dreadful events (being eaten by lions!). The central part of the Duomo is being renovated but you can still appreciate the height and the stonework, in particularly a stone screen of Saints on the side wall. Services take place...More

When you go to Modena, you can't miss seeing the Duomo. It's truly lovely. We went at night, when it was closed, but it's great to just walk around and admire the architecture.

We think about 11€ each. Purchase at the front ticket office in front of the Duomo - but walk around to the rear entrances.
