Find the small church a short walk out of the centre of Bologna, enter the church and knock or ring the bell on the door on the left hand side. Someone will buzz you through into a receiving room. You will then be allowed into see St Catherine of Bologna.....

My niece is Catherine so I went to see the mummified remains of her namesake. The church is off the beaten track, the door to Saint Catherine is hidden on the left inside the empty church. There is a doorbell with something written in Italian. I pressed it. Nothing appeared to happen. Then the noise of locks unlocking and big heavy doors opening got louder and louder. Exciting. I was then joined by a group of three Italians waiting at the imposing door. After about five minutes of clunks and clicks a nun appeared at the door. She didn't speak English, she had warm welcoming face. The youngest Italian woman helped translate for me. We were led inside to a golden shrine to Saint Catherine to find her mummified remains sitting on a throne. There are no windows. She sat there by herself long after she had died so the story goes. The skulls and bones of two of her companions rest beside her and there are various bones of other Saints in cases and displays around the small circular room. Our guide, the nun, was clearly very fond of Saint Catherine. The talk ended with a prayer in Italian and the kind nun may find you some information in English if you're interested. The whole thing took about 40 minutes. Mummified Saint Catherine is worth the trip but the experience of the visit is what makes it special. You don't need to be catholic but you need to respect the faith.

The church of St. Catherine seems to be a bot outside of the centre, but in fact it is 10-15 min easy walking distance. When we got there we had a feeling that we are back in medevial centuries entering beautiful church full of mistery. Look for signs on left side and go toward the chapel. The doors are closed. Have to ring and wait for opening. The chapel contains a mummy of St. Catherine and it is design and decorations are just superior. Do everything possible not to miss it. Check opening hours as at midday the church is closed.

The church is so pretty and calling into see St. Catherine is a must. A little bothering that they do not have information in English but you cannot have everything. Very quaint church and lovely to see her resting place.

The church Corpus Domini is beautiful. But the real best is the Cappella della Santa inside of it as it contains a mummy. It is only open Tue to Thu and Sat/Sun from 9:30 to 11:30 and 16 to 17:45. Fotos are normally not allowed inside of the chapel. Free attraction well worth visiting.
