Our hotel was close to a metro station, so we bought a 72-hour pass. The automated ticket machines in the stations were easy to use. They offered four different languages to accommodate the tourists. The maps were easy to read and the stations and trains...More

After maneuvering complicated Japanese subway lines, Rome is straightforward and affordable. Single-use Metro tickets cost €1.50 each, good for 100 minutes from when you validate the ticket, and you can buy them at Metro stops, tobacco shops, and newsstands. We got on the Repubblica-Teatro dell'Opera...More

Rome Metro is a good system, very cheap, reliable and gets you from point A to point B. When it works it's practically perfect, and we have found that it always works, at least for us. We have been lucky enough to have not experienced...More

The Rome Metro system is probably the easiest I have used as there are currently only two lines (A & B), with a third under construction. Broadly speaking, line A runs NW to SE while line B runs NE to SW. The lines cross at...More

Your first impressions of the Rome Metro are not likely to be too positive. Many of the stations are very gloomy and underlit and the system often feels poorly maintained and underfunded. Repubblica station was particularly grim with water dripping on the platform and a...More

I finally became a statistic today when my zipped bag was opened and the money taken out of my wallet. €200.00 lifted out without me knowing it until I got back to the hotel and I looked inside my wallet without any bills. Thankfully she...More

I find buses rather than the Metro easier to deal with in Rome. They're slower, but they reach more areas. The Metro is only three lines, and doesn't go into the historic centre. And Line C doesn't take you any place you want to go....More

Roma Metropolitane is useful when you want to travel to somewhere in Rome quickly and a Metro station is in the vicinity. Prepare to accept standing room only and being jammed against each other in the train. Beware of pickpockets; keep your valuables in sight....More

Just two lines, but very efficient to get from A to B if your destinations are near the metro lines. Somewhat shabby, crowded. Tip: Go to the end of the platform to get a wagon that is almost empty (relatively speaking). The next train is...More
