Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The worst “art” museum we have ever seen.
Disrespectful to the visitors, especially for real art lovers and collectors .
Very light and limited shows that doesn’t need to be open to the public.
Guardians was rude and the vibe is like we are trespassing all the time.
Have to think again about the concept.

When “ art”needs words and words of explanation it has lost its way. There are great spaces here which should be filled with remarkable contemporary art. What you get is ugly , sparse and over intellectualised.
I felt truly sorry for attendants trapped in a dark room with a video screen and not even a chair to sit on . It seems like a modern form of torture!
The building itself is remarkable, especially on the roof terrace in the late afternoon light

I was at the macro this afternoon around 5.30pm to visit the exhibition on Patrizia Cavalli.
The exhibition spaces, without air conditioning and with a fan before the entrance (for whom?) exceeded any living temperature. We started to get sick after just ten minutes. After a quarter of an hour we left, disappointed because the exhibition is very beautiful but requires reading the texts on display to appreciate the poetic workshop of this author. Impossible to linger, concentrate and even breathe.
Not acceptable to keep visitors in these temperatures. Worse still, keeping security personnel at work in these conditions.
It took me an hour by car to get here, I paid for a ticket and could not take advantage of anything.
Bad experience.

They appear to be in the process of reimagining the museum. In the meantime, there is a lot of empty space, and some generally not very interesting art. The building is kind of cool.
I spent more time walking there from Repubblica than I spent in the museum.

We travelled a long way on public transport to get here and were a little disappointed. We arrived and on entering, were not welcomed and there was no reception or anybody to eccola in anything. There were people cleaning the floors and a couple of dour looking security people so we just walked around. Half the place was devoid of exhibits, life or interest. The best thing about the place was the cafe upstairs that sold good, cheap coffee. The barman was really friendly too. Walking around, it almost felt like you were trespassing. We almost missed half of the museum as all doors were closed and we just happened to notice one door ajar that took us to another area where there were several floors of exhibitions. Many were barely populated and some rooms were bare but a couple of rooms were quite interesting and held out attention for a little while. It’s a shame really as the space is great and has such potential. I find it hard to believe that they couldn’t find more local artists to contribute.

I can't believe how this building was one jam packed with cutting edge, provocative, charming, and just plain interesting art. Now it's less than empty- it's a cultural and artistic vacuum. If there was anything being exhibited I couldn't tell. Was that a row of chairs or an installation? A handful of wrinkled posters on the wall- was it a work in progress? Unmarked doors, some open, some don't. Hallways and catwalks leading to nothing but dead ends. One room in this gigantic void had some paintings randomly slapped up on a wall, but it seemed a construction crew was building something right in front of them. An elevator to a plain, unadorned concrete rooftop. Probably twenty 'employees' milling around- I wanted to ask them where the art was, but every time I approached someone, they got embarrassed and walked away. I guess because there is nothing going on in here they don't even turn on the lights in some areas. I picked up a floor plan, which looked like a schematic for a broken video game, and less than useless. Nothing but a time sucking waste of life and space.

Certainly not worth the trip - the current exhibitions are lackluster (mid-Feb 2015), the staff is unreasonably cold (bordering on nasty), and the 13.50 E entry fee is truly overpriced - an opinion shared by other visitors who were there at the same time as we were. Go to the MAXXI instead - a much better way to see what makes the contemporary art world tick. This experience has been the only disappointment in our 3-week stay in Rome: take my advice, don't go there.

Fantastic building with interactive art installations and working artists across several floors.
Avant garde at times and truly fabulous throughout.

So uninviting we thought it was closed at first. Sadly it wasn't so we went in and
wasted 12€ each.
Acres of wasted space painted in battleship grey and a layout so confusing we thought it must be some art piece commenting on the madness of the modern condition. Or something.
The best art to be found was actually a mural painted onto the side of a building outside the gallery which was more insightful and thought provoking than any of the stuff inside. And free.
In short it's this kind of thing that gives modern art a bad name.
Visit the the other (proper) gallery of modern art instead.

Only 2, yes two, temporary exhibitions were on when we visited. There is an argument I should have done more research before going but there wasn't a hint of a warning from the lady at the ticket desk (speaking of whom was incredibly rude and unhelpful).
The price of 12 euros is therefore daylight robbery (its dearer than the Borghese Gallery!). As others have mentioned, I would pay 2-3 Euro MAX to see what we saw.
Given also that the museum is quite far out compared to the other attractions, please dont waste your time like we did trekking out to this empty trap. I'm a huge fan of modern art and was left reeling in disappointment.
