Neighbourhood: Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighbourhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.

By the standards of Rome, where churches may contain Renaissance masterpieces, statues by Michelangelo, paintings by Raphael or Caravaggio, the church of Santa Maria in Via is quite ordinary, although it did have a beautiful baroque interior. One famous architect nevertheless had a hand here, if not his mind, - this is Giacomo della Porta, the author of the Moro fountain in Piazza Navona and the final architect of the dome of San Pietro as a student of Michelangelo. According to his design, the church was rebuilt in the 16th century. However, the church gained some fame in the 13th century in connection with the legend of the floating Madonna, when the servant of a certain cardinal accidentally threw the icon with the Madonna into the well, the water rose and brought the icon to the surface, uprooting it, so to speak, from the depths. Therefore, I would call it the Church of the Floating Madonna.

We accidentally got into this church during our trip in Rome. While praying inside the church i just felt like to search about this church and found about the miraculous well.. we had actually not noticed it initially.... Me n my husband were trying to conceive a baby for quite some time.. and i was praying for the same. That day we both drank water from well with faith.. and praise to the lord and thanks to mother mary the very next month i got pregnant..

There are more than 900 churches in Rome but this one that we had accidentally visited was a nice surprise. We sat there for a moment, took some nice pictures and decided to leave. Suddenly an older man who was the keeper took my friend by the shoulder and took her away. I did not know what is going on so I followed them and he showed us the most beautiful Betlehem I have ever seen!!! So detailed, so colorful. Then he took us to the well where a miracle in 1256 happened and gave us some of the miracle water. That was such a lovely visit of this church. Though he did not understand a word in English, nor did we Italian, we understood each other :) I totally recommend to visit this church!

Very old, small and beautiful holy place where you can find a lot of good people praying with devotion.
The church existed from the 9th century but was rebuilt following a report of miraculous well and its water.
Few people know the story of this place, which, if you are religious, is very interesting indeed.
If you are thirsty physically or spiritually, this is the place that can help quench your thirst! You can take the cool water easily through a faucet next to the deep well of Holy Mary.
Not for tourists but very meaningful for devotees of Mother Mary.

A frequented church for the locals: I've seen some of the polizia drinking the water from the well before their shift starts, and locals too before going to work. For a donation of your choice, you can take home some of the water in a bottle with the image of Our Lady of the Well on the front - nice to bring home with you if you know somebody who is ill or convalescing. Take note of the church's open/closing times - in Italy, most churches are closed from around 12.30ish-3ish (although, of course, times vary from church to church).
It's a very special church...

This is a quiet little church that often is filled with locals dropping by during their lunch time. Close to Galleria Alberto Sordi and Piazza Colonna, it's worth a visit if you are in the area. The typical Baroque exterior gives way to a somewhat dark interior. On the right side, the first chapel holds a miraculous well as well as a lovely altar around an icon, a representation of the virgin that is said to have floated in the water when the well first bubbled up. People still regularly come here to drink from the well. There's a large creche in a room to the left of the main altar.

Just off the Via Del Corso half way between Piazza del Popolo and Piazza della la Republica is a small parish church of Santa Maria in Via. I didn't know what i had found until I started reading the various descriptors but more importantly saw people coming and going from the first chapel on the right at the entrance of the church. A regular stream of people...and young, mostly female. I went to the chapel and saw that they were lighting a candle and then drinking water. poured into paper cups, from a tap at the front. It seems tha this chapel, Cappella della Madonna del Pozzo, was built over a well in wihich a miracle occured, and for believes, the well, still active, still has miraculous properties. The whole church is worth a visit but the people watching here, and the piety of the those coming in, was a powerful testament of faith. Worth the visit.

Another small church absolutely crammed with art and history, don't miss the miracle water, i'm not sure it works but i can't hurt to believe that it does, for a small donation you can take a small bottle away with you.

This small church is amongst the most beautiful. Rather than the main altar more attention is gathered to the back of the church on the right upon entering. This is because miraculous water flows from the well and believers are given small disposable cups to drink some water from. This miraculous water flows from the well which a painting of the Madonna appeared in and when the latter was removed there was the water of the well.
