Centro Storico - the historical center of Rome is full of monuments - the Pantheon, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona - with its fountains, palaces, churches, the magnificent churches - Santa Maria del Popolo, Chiesa di Sant' Ignazio, and Basilica di Santa Maggiore.
We were lucky to be staying in this area and it was beautiful. Everything was easy to find from this part of Rome, including great bars & restaurants. Not to mention fashion shops - both expensive & very good prices, and delicious ice cream!
So many things to see while still (at least in late-September) being able to avoid the crush of tourist traffic. I would strongly advise to try to get off the beaten track a bit--even if you follow a guide book's general direction, try to use...More
