This is a wonderful place to visit - the beautiful Church of San Matteo. It is situated in the older part of the city, but quite easy to find and well worth a visit.

We were the only visitors there on the day we went. Most of the Artwork is of a religious nature and it has a room of Ivory tablets that are said to be the largest in the world. Rooms are small and temperature controlled. It...More

There is something about St. Matthew's Cathedral that opens my heart and lets me know that God is there for sure! The artwork and the sanctuary are extraordinary. The crypt of St. Matthew is moving and reminds me that we are all called to be...More

Even if you've seen almost every church in Italy you must see this historic church dedicated to St Matthew. It is free to visit and the 8nterior is very different to anything we've seen befoe.

We only slipped in here because it was raining. In the first room we entered, we were confronted by Caravaggio's Judith. It's amazing how close you can get to priceless art. (I'm sure if we had actually touched anything, it would have set off alarms!)...More

I was the only visitor on a summer Saturday morning and found the museum very pleasant. I was surprised to see ivory carvings depicting testament scriptures. The rooms were lit only as needed , perhaps triggered by entry or remote control. One room failed to...More

I didn't spend long enough here as they closed about an hour after I got there. Illuminated manuscripts, alabaster, petite pieces of ornately carved ivory and some lovely art - I particularly liked Judith.
