The two forts on Mount Pentimele were recently cleaned and restored. In fact at time of our visit they were still working on the last touches and the forts were closed. The simple fortifications were built in the 19th-century and served the Italian military until the end of WW2. The main attraction is the breathtaking 360° panorama of the city, the Strait of Messina and the Aspromonte Mountain. The area is a place of natural beauty with copses, meadows and grassy hillsides. Built bu the second King of Italy in 1882, they faced the straight of Messina. The last guns were taken away in 1943 by the retreating German Army.
