This system of cisterns under the city provided water to the residents of Matera for hundreds of years. From a historical perspective the tour was interesting and we had been looking forward to it. We went on the English language tour and found it very...More

A short visit absolutely worth to be allowed to know how water supply problem has been solved long time ago. Not to miss when in Matera.

Don't hesitate visiting this expression of human engineering. For 3 euro you can get a tour in English that will take you down and explain the history. This short tour takes you down into the cisterns of Matera's Palombaro (water collection system). It's hard to...More

While taking a break at a bench next to the entrance without checking what it is for we were invited by the guide to enter. The inside world was exciting to see and hear about.

Tours go at certain times. We were lucky to have the tour in English. She spoke slowly and repeated the information if needed. She also had a torch to show us the different levels of water, shells, etc. The tours lasts about 20 minutes.

They compare it to Istanbuls cistern - no comparison. Guide takes you to the top of stairway to dark corner and hard to understand even in English. The history of the cisterns are interesting but not worth the guided tour.

The guide Anna gave a very interesting talk. Her English was flawless and her enthusiasm much appreciated. Fascinating. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed our visit in English. Guide spoke it very well and explained everything slowly and clearly since several members of the group weren't English.

Impressive. Get inside to be humbled by the majesty of something unique. With a toddler I used a backpack to keep my daughter. No issues whatsoever.

The English tour was interesting but the guide kept translating into French for a couple who didn't speak English which took a lot of time. It was a short tour so it was hard to ask questions. Fortunately the guide was available afterwards and answered...More

Si, tutti i tour hanno il numero chiuso. Pertanto i biglietti vanno presi il prima possibile, direttamente in biglietteria.
