The Plaza de la Independencia has the beautiful monument of the Puerta de Alcala. The Puerta de Alcala is a Neo-classical monument in the Plaza de la Independencia and is very beautiful. This is a must see. There are several cafeterias in the plaza where...More

I came here again but this time had a proper walk around. It is a supremely impressive victory arch - more impressive that Marble Arch or Wellington Arch in London. Unfortunately although you can walk round it I don't think you can safely get to...More

This is a beautiful gate that is located close to the main entrance to Retiro Park in the center of a heavily trafficked roundabout. If you are careful there is a small island from which good photos can be taken.

Located at one end of the Retiro Park and with the famous Puerta de Alcala at its center, this is another Madrid Landmark. The plaza is really a very busy traffic roundabout and is surrounded by cafes and restaurants. At the center of the roundabout...More

This triumphal arch is an impressive sight when you are entering Retiro park but the traffic is awful here and so you won't wish to stay long!

This is a central and busy roundabout in Madrid. While the roundabout itself is of less interest, the lovely gate in the middle of the roundabout is beautiful and provides several photo-ops.

Come out of the park and you will see the monument for the Plaza de la Independencia in full view. It is a striking monument but other that that the Plaza has little else to see. But if you are at the park you may...More

A nice and busy roundabout at the entrance to Retiro Park, Plaza de la Independencia features nice sidewalk cafes and a beautiful monument!

This large ro tondo, is the confluence of several main traffic arteries. It features the beautiful Puerta Alcala, and is the gateway to El Retiro park. We sat and had an evening meal at a sidewalk cafe and loved the experience.

Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where
many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where
the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and

thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is
Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables
serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture
