This modern museum in a traditional building provides an insight into the city's history. The exhibition is a modern interpretation of history. Beware the lunch-time closing as we got caught part-way on our visit and had to leave before we'd finished the whole exhibition which...More

We went to this museum just to kill some time before our flight, but found that we should have spent much more time there in hindsight. Three floors of very interesting history on the city of Madrid and how it developed as a capital. Granted,...More

This may not be a great world class museum, but if you are interested in the history of Madrid, it should be a must. It is a modern, thoughtful and well laid out history museum in a remarkable construction just north of Gran Via on...More

The museum has a new well composed exposition of the history of Madrid and Spain. It could be even a little bit more descriptive. The Franco years are unfortunately not very well documented. The model of the city dating from the 19th centrury was one...More

This is a little advertised museum, and suffers from being the 'wrong' side of the Gran Via. It is a museum dedicated to the history of Madrid shown though a mix of art and artefacts. The museum is within a converted Hospice, and the modern...More

The city's Museum of History isn't listed on many flyers as a "must see" attraction, but it should be. Definitely worth a couple of hours!

The ornate Churrigueresque frontage suggested a typical medieval interior but this former hospice appears to have been totally gutted and inside was spanking new. Everywhere very stylish with glass panels and laminated flooring. It's a wonderful spacious presentation of paintings, models, dioramas and other items...More

This building is historic, with an impressive exterior and interesting inside. It does close for lunch, so keep an eye on the opening hours. There are plenty of staff on hand to answer questions. There is information in English on modt exhibits. The museum is...More

Just to get a selfie with the incredibly ornate entrance as a backdrop is worth the visit in itself. I’d been to the museum the previous year and was a bit taken aback by the emptiness inside but was told that the museum was in...More

Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where
many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where
the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and
people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main
thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is
Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables
serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture
of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses
