If I lived in Madrid this is where I would want to shop! The freshest of the fresh. Amazing fish, vegetables, meats and accompaniments. Made me want to cook dinner instead of going out!

The first time we visited was mid-morning. It was very quiet with only a few vendors open. We went a day later, on a foodie tour, in the late middle of the day. Vibrant and alive all the venders were there and business was booming....More

Nice and local! You don’t find many tourist here. They do have some nice tapasbars and stalls to get a drink. If you are in the area it is a nice stop.

It is a beautiful market with sections to buy fruits / vegetables as also two floors one devoted to a variety of food and drink and the terrace a restaurant offering authentic spanish cuisine .

Nice market heavy on meat vendors. There were cheese and vegetables as well. Not really a place you’d go to eat there.

Though Mercado San Miguel was packed, this place was surprisingly pretty tame. The restaurants each served many different types of fare and there is something for everyone. I recommend going to the top floor and trying a couple of the tapas and sushi places.

Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a
different country ... except it's hard to tell which
one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with
Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in
traditional African clothing convene outside their
businesses for long chats, and people shout to each
other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among
ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and
