A lifetime experience. After such a long way you finally get here, and the Cathedral does not disappoint you. Huge and expiring, it's what you've ben waiting for, for so many kilometres. Just enjoy!

UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE!

Arriving at the Cathedral and town after walking the CAmino was an overwhelming emotional experience. Mass and service was beautiful. Will treasure my”Compostela” certificate.

Actual travel was in Fall,2017

Fantastic Finale to the Santiago Pilgrimage
Sep 2021
This Cathedral must be seen to be believed. From the exterior facade to the incredibly ornate high altar, side chapels and organs, it just takes your breath away. and make sure you go down into the crypt area to see the encased remains of St. James which is what makes this cathedral the end of the St. James pilgrimage from all over Europe.

Amazing cathedral and tower but mass is very limited due to Covid.
Oct 2021 • Couples
We couldn’t attend pilgrim mass after our Camino as queue starts at least 1.5 hours before. We were able to walk through between services. Door is on right side as you look at main front. Tower tour is an additional cost with museum. Tour is only in Spanish but still incredible experience walking around the roof and bell tower. Crypt entrance is further around right. Queue moved quickly.

Very beautiful and charismatic but all the tours were only in Spanish
Sep 2021 • Couples
We came here for the day to really get to understand the place and did the tours, inside and out - museum, tower, crypt etc.
We were very disappointed to find out that every tour was only in Spanish and no other language and there were only a few labels that had English / Portuguese / French to describe what was going on.
The actual place itself is very beautiful indeed and it has a lot of very interesting history and is very well looked after, however for such an iconic tourist attraction they need to cater for international tourists.

A disappointing end to the Camino
Sep 2021 • Friends
After 200 miles of pilgrimage you’d think that visiting the cathedral would be the culmination of the experience. Waiting In the queue for 1.5 hours in the rain with no indication of when or if you might get in was too much. We gave up and went for a coffee.

Don’t bother.

Are you kidding me? Anything rated higher is crazy. Walk into this Cathedral and you will be surprised. Very adequate compensation to all the pilgrims!!

COVID ALTERATIONS TO VISIT
Aug 2021
COVID ALTERATIONS TO VISITS -
alters where and who you can visit. So From the main square - Obradoiro - you can only access the tour for the Catedral Museum - and from this visit, you can visit the "portico da Gloria" - you cannot visit the cathedral.
To access the cathedral, pray, and view the main alter please enter by Plaza de las Platerias - some line is expected. During mass and when the maximum number of tourists enter the doors are closed. In the church only 3 people by a bench.
TO visit the tomb of Santiago Apostol you must enter by "puerta santa" and only can go there and you must get out by the other side - you cannot go to the cathedral main area.
Visit the main image of the Apothol is no longer possible - and the traditional hug is forbidden.

A place full of magic
Jul 2020
Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, one of the greatest monuments of Romanesque architecture in Spain, has been included in the UNESCO list since 1985. Its construction began in 1075 during the reign of Alfonso VI of Castile. The culmination of the architectural evolution of the cathedral is its main, late-baroque facade overlooking the Obradoiro square. A beautiful place, symbolic. But, you must remember that the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela does not allow pilgrims with backpacks larger than a purse-purse to enter inside. Undoubtedly a must-see during your stay in Santiago.

Major renovation works in progress
Oct 2020
Unfortunately we visited during a period of intense renovation activity and thus didn't get to see the best of this magnificent building. Would love to come back when the work is finished.
