About
Basilica de la Sagrada Familia is a church devoted to the Holy Family. One of Antoni Gaudi’s most famous works, the church is perhaps best known for still being under construction since 1882—with works funded purely by donations. Take a lift to the top of the towers for a panoramic view of the city and marvel at the ornate architecture. The nativity facade and crypt have also been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status. Skip the line with a pre-booked tour with tower access, or combine your visit with another of Gaudi's work, Parc Guell. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

One of a kind architecture from Gaudí. Made a booking online in advance for entry plus the towers. I’d recommend booking early because we had wanted the guided tour along with the towers (it was only 4 euros more) but it was booked out. We went to the Passion Tower (the other option is the Nativity Tower) and we highly enjoyed going up and seeing the architecture close up/views of the city. Note that while you go up via elevator, you must go back down via the stairs. Go slowly as it’s a spiral staircase and you might get dizzy. Leave time in the beginning so that you can go through security (though when we went in on Sunday at 9:15am, it went fairly quickly). Download the app in advance for the Sagrada Família so that you can get the full background of each of the points of interest.

The Sagrada Família is one of Barcelona’s most iconic landmarks and an unfinished masterpiece by architect Antoni Gaudí. This extraordinary example of Catalan modernism combines art, faith and nature in a work that leaves you speechless.
The basilica, begun in 1882, is still under construction, but even today it stands out for its imposing towers and facades rich in symbolism. The Nativity Façade, with its detailed sculptures, celebrates life and nature, while the Passion Façade evokes the suffering and sacrifice of Christ in a more austere style.
The interior of the Sagrada Família is a unique experience: columns reminiscent of trees, stained glass windows that fill the space with light and a design that seems to bring heaven to earth. Gaudí was inspired by nature for every detail, creating an atmosphere of peace and spirituality.
The visit can include access to the towers, from which you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city. With its blend of innovative engineering and artistic beauty, unfortunately despite having booked well in advance the entrance to the towers was fully booked for all the days of our holiday. I recommend buying tickets online because there are always a lot of people. The price of the single ticket is 25 euros, with tower 36, with the guide increases.

It is a once in a lifetime viewing it was spectacular.
Make sure you buy your tickets beforehand and buy direct from the company, not 3rd parties. They are cheaper, also bear in mine people with disabilities get it cheaper, I use a walking stick and wasable to get cheaper ticket. We loved this and was highlight of our trip to Barcelona so far

This is a must-see, because there is no other place like it on earth. We bought tickets in advance for 3:00 pm to go into the church and experience it, and then we had booked a 3:45 walking tour with our guide Jose. Jose gave us incredible details about the building, and it is worth the money to have a guided tour (earbuds and microphone included). I think we spent 3.5 hours at the church, enjoying the architecture, the light, the colours from the stained glass, and the general awesomeness of this space which has been being built since the end of the 19th century. Should be done in the next decade. Below the church is a museum space with samples of the building models, and also a very nice gift shop that was full of tasteful items. We were there in late November 2024, and across the street was a Christmas market. 10 out of 10 experience for anyone who appreciates architecture, light, beauty, and genius!

The basilica is beautiful. Everything is treated in a modern and aesthetic way. Outside, the statues are very expressive. Inside, it is a flood of colors changing during the day.
Plan to book well in advance.
You can climb in one of the towers if you determine it upon booking, and with an extra charge. The tower on the passion side is higher, its reservations leave faster.
Namely: a schedule is indicated for the tour of the tower. You have to respect it, and then you can definitely go back to the basilica where you were.
If you wish, the tour ends with a museum located under the building.

What a beautiful sight to behold in person! All 5 of us enjoyed our visit here, which lasted about 1 hour and 45 minutes. We purchased our tickets online in advance and included the Tower Climb (Nativity Tower). We arrived 30 minutes before our designated Tower Climb time, and so started the audio guide tour for a bit, then did the tower climb (which is an elevator up - not stairs - and then stairs down), and then completed the audioguide tour. The audio guide tour was very good (remember to bring your own headphones to go with your phone, as the audio guide is played from your own phone). I didn't think the Tower Climb was particularly worth it, but it was nice to see some of the designs/carvings up close; even so, it took less than 10 minutes, was very crowded, and didn't provide particularly impressive views; also, the climb down was close quarters, and I think some people would struggle with it (if you have mobility issues). Both the outside and inside were a marvel to see!

Astonishing beauty and staggering views, an absolute MUST do in Barcelona!
You have to buy a ticket in advance online only - you cannot buy a ticket there.
Take headphones with you to listen to the audio guide -free download on the app. It’s noisy so you can’t hear it really without headphones.
Literally breathtaking & hard to articulate - you have to go!!

Even just looking at the outside of this building, you know that it’s going to be amazing but when you get inside, it really takes your breath away. What you see from the street is half of what you can see the façade upfront. I highly recommend you going inside versus just feeling it from the street. There was so much to see. I easily spent a couple of hours wandering around looking at everything and I’m sure I still didn’t see it allphenomenal is highly recommended all.

Incredible experience!
You can enter 15 minutes prior to the time on your ticket. As you enter, they scan you and your bag (like airport security). This was a good experience, quick, and I had no problems with my small crossbody bag.
I opted for the guided tour option and then a trip up the passion tower.
My tour guide was Lut - she was brilliant, very knowledgeable, engaging and her English was spectacular. She gave us plenty of time to admire and ask questions and the tour didn’t feel rushed. It took approximately just over an hour, and we were stood/walking throughout.
You are given a headset which amplifies the guides voice through personal headphones - very useful!

The tour guide doesn’t accompany you up the towers, there is an audio guide to download on the app to guide you through this. I recommend downloading the guide on the app when you have a strong wifi connection before going as mine hadn’t worked on hotel wifi and the data signal was too weak inside the cathedral. I still enjoyed the views despite no audio guide.
You go up the tower in a lift, and then there are a couple of flights of stairs once in with plenty on view points within. The descent down the spiral staircase is a little bit daunting, it is tight and I recommend taking it slow as you don’t want to trip or get dizzy! There was a secure hand rail, but younger children may be too scared.

Inside the Sagrada Familia is phenomenal, I can’t put into words how unbelievably beautiful it is. Despite it being busy, I still felt I saw everything I wanted to and didn’t feel overwhelmed with crowds.

There are toilets and a vending machine selling drinks, however drinking isn’t permitted inside the Sagrada. You must take off your hat and cover your shoulders, and make sure your shorts/skirt/dress are not too short out of respect.

There is a museum which is interesting (and air conditioned!) and also a gift shop.

Beautiful church, unlike any other on earth. The construction 🚧 is still ongoing but that just makes it special, we heard no noise due to construction but we did go on a Saturday. We got tickets 🎫 for 10:30 and we walked straight through security and into the church, no wait at all. The church is amazing in the sunlight with the stained glass. We booked the passion tower and it was worth it, the view lovely 🤩 and you see the towers from an interesting angle with views of the city. Although we booked the tower for 11:15 we waited 15mins in a queue for the elevator. But because the elevator only takes up 6-7 people at a time when your up there you don't have to contend with hordes of people. Note you do have to pre book the towers on the website and you have to walk down the stairs ✨️
