Absolutely worth the precarious drive! A tour of the observatory is a must! Emailing the observatory direct doesn’t usually prompt a response, despite their website indicating to do so. Independent companies such as Ad Astra La Palma provide a 90 minute tour for just EUR9....More

The views are worth the long drive to the top. Would be better if there was a visitor centre nearby.

We would our way gently uphill from Santa Cruz de la Palma through forests and out through the tree line to catch out first glimpse of the telescopes of La Palma. Being above the clouds with these friendly giants all around was a surreal experience...More

If you visit the island of La Palma, and you are at least somewhat scientifically minded, you **must** visit this observatory. This place is worth a visit for the views alone, but since this observatory is one of the top observatories in the world, your...More

The Observatory is on a hair rising winding way up to the Roque de los Muchachos and sits majestically on a dramatic landscape fit for a science fiction movie!. Due to inclement weather and time restrictions we were unable to visit the site but were...More

The drive up to the observatory is breathtaking. Countless hairpins as you wind your way up through the Canary Pines and out through the treeline towards the observatory. The structures themselves are almost unworldly looking like something from a science fiction film. Once up to...More

Unfortunately we missed our booked slot to the observatory so I contacted the organisation twice to find out if there were any other tours which I would be happy to pay for again. No response - it seems they were happy to take my money...More

There are tours operating, have a look at adastralapalma as they offered a tour for EUR9 when we went last week. Must be booked in advance. No public bus service to the rock or observatory, and the above tours are in your... More

No bus line services the observatory. You need a car to do the tours as you drive from the meeting point, to the mid-point where they talk about the different observatories visible, and then drive a bit further where you go... More
