Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely large church especially for the wall painting celebrating the islanders repelling ‘our’ ie the British attempt to invade in 1743. Some lovely decoration - paint on wood - in side chapels and ceiling. Unusual wooden enclosure for font with gallery over.

A short walk from the cruise terminal. Columbus and his men allegedly prayed at this ancient church before setting off for the New World. This really is a beautiful church with a beautiful altar and a hand-carved wooden ceiling.

As with most Canary Island towns, the church is always the centre of the town & often spectacular.
This one is nice & with lovely wooden doors & ceiling.
Ok for a quick look.

During our stroll through San Sebastian de La Gomera, we were drawn by this beautiful old church. The architecture is simple, but inside there are a great number of valuable artifacts on display. Just the place to spend a moment of reflection and interior peace.

Popped in during the locals' siesta time for a look round. We are more used to the profusion of gilt in Italian churches, so this seemed plain by comparison. Still, some lovely religious artwork and like most very old places of worship, a feeling of peace and tranquillity. Again unlike Italian churches, they weren't ringing the bells every ten minutes or so! Well worth a visit.

We visited as we had time to spare waiting for the Ferry, it had some lovely paintings, and worth reading about before to get a feeling of how much the church has been through to survive

La Iglesia de la Asuncion de San Sebastian de La Gomera is a wonderful building in the centre of San Sebastian de La Gomera. Christopher Columbus and his crew were reputed to have worshipped in the church before setting sail for the Americas.

It is a small church but the internal decoration and woodwork is pretty intricate.

This little church is a wonderful piece of history. It is the church where Christopher Columbus prayed before setting sail for the Americas. It is rather dark inside but your eyes get accustomed to the light after a while. The flowers in the church were beautifully arranged. It is a treasure worth seeing.

Lovely old church, with lots of old pictures and altars.

It is better not to visit it in the 4.00 - 5.00 pm slot when the coach tours disgorge trippers who are fitting in a quick peek at the last place where Columbus prayed before going to the Christopher Columbus museum nearby.
