Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is duty to visit the top of Alto Garajonay, the highest mountain on Gomera island (1487m), many people do it. But try to hike there before sunset and be in time for sunset on the top! If You will be lucky You can see ocean to any direction and islands El Hiero, La Palma, La Teneriffa, if clear air Gran Canaria as well!

It is one of the four national parks found in the Canary archipelago. Visiting it, either on foot, or using a tourist transport does not leave anyone indifferent.

Nice view of surrounding islands and it also has a reconstructed shrine of La Gomera's original ihnabitants. The footpaths to the highest peak of La Gomera are clearly marked so you should find your way quite easily. Just a small ranger's hut on the top so make sure to have enough water and snacks for your entire journey.

Wide range of walks ranging from easy to difficult. One can usually avoid wind or low cloud by choosing the right walk.

Managed to see part view of island one afternoon, with misty cloud around; may return if it looks better in a few days. Shortest route up is from road with good quality wide paved path leading basically south. Very interesting to see the natural regeneration of the mountainsides after the 2012 devastating fire. They are also gradually eliminating inappropriate tree planting from the past, reinstating native species. Watch the weather, and do go if it looks clear...

A real park now recovered from a terrible fire a few years ago and substantial efforts have been made to make the ancient rainforest accessible to all.

Alto de Garojonay is the highest point of La Gomera and is often covered in low cloud or mist.
You do however get clear days and it is well worth the small amount of effort to get to the top for the spectacular views of La Gomera as well as the neighbouring islands.
The are several routes to the Alto de Garojonay. It is possible to park within a 20 minute short stroll to the top. If you want a more interesting hike, there are great routes from Chipude and from Imada.
Once you have left the villages there is nowhere to buy water / food so make sure you carry enough for the duration of your trip.

Either as a short walk or as a long half day route this is a must on La Gomera. Fantastic views, if no clouds. Very well signposted and good explanations about geology and biology of Garojonai.

A big part of the trip to the top goes through burned forest, which is not so nice. View on top is good, if it is a cloudless day...

we could see 4 other canary islands from this top
it is a pity though that almost half of the national park is burned due to a forest fire in August 2012
