Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came to Gomera to spend a quiet holiday. Unfortunately, Playa Santiago is not suitable for that! The village itself has nothing to offer, it's not pretty and the selection in the markets leaves a lot to be desired. We wouldn't mind that. Unfortunately, it's not possible to get a good night's sleep at the weekend! You're bombarded with screaming voices and loud music from the beach until the early hours. NEVER AGAIN Playa Santiago!!! ... a ruthless place.

A fairly quiet, laid back, pebbled beach which was swimmable depending on tide. Family-friendly with some nice restaurants, ice cream kiosk and supermarkets nearby. Not too much to not like really, all good.

We stayed in Las Vistas apartments overlooking the sea. Lovely well fitted apartment. Swimming pool on the roof. Two minutes from the shops and restaurants. Great atmosphere. Yummy food. The perfect chill out.

We were staying at Jardin Tecina in Playa Santiago on La Gomera at Xmas week and unfortunately the tour that the hotel had of a tour of the island was not available because it was Xmas week. I used trip advisor and did lots of research and came across VSV tours run by Valentin. I rang the contact number and spoke directly to Valentin who was extremely helpful, friendly and we arranged for him to collect us from our hotel at 1000hrs the next day. He was prompt, the vehicle was new, clean and lovely to spend a day in touring the island on its bendy roads! Another couple that we met at our hotel also joined us. We had a wonderful day, 40 euros each which included lunch at a beautiful local restaurant which you certainly wouldn't get on a big tour! It was an amazing day and Valentin has lots of knowledge of the island. He even has tea/coffee in his vehicle! We enjoyed it so much we booked for another day just like precious reviewers have done. Unfortunately on the second occasion I was poorly (not connected to the trip) and Valentin was so kind and went our of his way to find a pharmacy etc. My husband and had to leave the tour early because I was unwell and Valentin even e mailed me later that night to see how I was. 5** star person. 5* service. Thank you Valentin and we hope that lots of people read our review and give you a ring. I don't normally do reviews but you were extra special thank you.

Well...
Where do i start ?
VSV Tours has been set up by Valentin...With a brand new 8 seater minibus, air conditioned, utmost luxury. He offers personalised tours of La Gomera...His motto is " See La Gomera the easy way" and we did TWICE,on different routes. We were shown places off the general tourist track, included excellent lunches and at one of the restaurants we were treated to a display of the ancient art of Silbo whistling.

Valentin arrived promptly to pick us up from the Jardin Tecina in his 8- seater mini bus. We were his only clients that day so we enjoyed a very personal customised tour. This owner managed tour business has been running for just a year and defintely merits a five star rating! . Valentin is very professional, drives carefully along all the steep winding roads and speaks excellent English. He is not local but his local knowledge is exemplary. He took us to many scenic spots and wonderful panoramic look-outs which we would never have managed to find on our own and his enthusiastic running commentary about the history of the island and its topography, its flora and fauna and its charming folklore held our undivided attention. He produced coffee for our mid morning break and took us to an authentic little restaurant in one of the mountain villages for lunch where we enjoyed typical local fayre....watercress soup, pork stew, tuna fish and Canarian potatoes, all delicious.. All in all his tour was a sheer delight, a wonderful trip which was one of the highlights of our holiday. So thank you hugely Valentin - wishing you every success with your business's venture - you deserve it!

VSV Tours is run by Valentin Vasilev and provides a top quality, personalised service with unfailing courtesy and good humour. He gave 6 of us a most enjoyable day, well balanced with a mixture of sightseeing, local culture, lunch in a lovely local restaurant, off the tourist route, and he has clearly developed a great rapport with local people who go out of their way to provide his group with a great insight into Gomera life. And his prices are very comparable with the big tour organisers but his personal service and value for money set him apart . Five stars all round.

Puerto it is not large city at the seashore at the south-west region of Tenerife. You can reach it from the airport by bus for a few euros and a little mor than on hours. There are a good hotels, nice restaurants and pubs. In Puerto there are two beaches, but I didn't like it for the black sand, like a mud. But is it possible to swim in some swimmingpools, especially in natural swimmingpool between Los Gigantes and Puerto. There are interesting paths for walking along seashore or to the Los Gigantes. Close Puerto are some interesting places where we can get by bus, Los Christianos, Playa de la America, Masca and other.Opposite to the ocean is mount Teide, the vulcan. The great advantage of Puerto de Santiago is the excellent weather. Even in the winter is enough hot to sunbathing! So that I'll visit Puerto upcoming winter!

We stay at Jardin Tecina Hotel on top of the cliff. Playa Santiago is the first place we visit when staying in this glorious place, The beach is shingle and rocky. Nice restaurants and bars - very natural harbour (Great to watch the fish catches). Nothing posh or OTT, just a "real place" to relax and enjoy a totally different Canary Island. Long may it stay that way, Lovely craft shop with handmade jewellery on the edge of the beach. Class gifts and knowledgeable Owners. So special, going back in December.

Playa de Santiago is a quiet ex fishing village with a few restaurants and shops. The beach is black sand and there is little to commend it. However one or two of the few restaurants in the village are quite good and offer value for money and there is a very nice patisserie a short walk from the beach. If you have the misfortune to take ill the medical centre is really good and is open 24 hours. One of our party injured her ankle whilst playing tennis and she had very prompt attention. The holiday property bond HPB have a site near the village up on the cliffs and they together with those staying at the Jardin Tecina hotel on the opposite side of the village, again up on the cliffs, must provide an important income stream for the local businesses.

I have booked to stay here in March 2020. Will there still be building work going on and how intrusive is it?
Written 20 October 2019
We are here now in November and it is nearly finished . We hope it will be finished by next January when we are here again. Most of the restaurants are now up and running again and the work is now confined to either ends. The planters are ready to be installed. It should look splendid
