I regularly travel between formentera and Ibiza, and balearia’s boats are always very clean, staff is kind and departs on time.

Terrible Customer Service - Still waiting for a refund
Aug 2020
Due to Covid-19 and border closures, I wasn't able to travel to Spain.
I called Balearia's Customer Service over a dozen times, they never pick up even if you wait on hold for hours.

I tried using their online form to get a coupon valid for rebooking a trip in the future, but it conveniently says "Error, please reach out to Customer Service" .. what a joke..

I sent them half a dozen emails over a couple of months, never heard back. Now I'm out $600 with no refund, despite my trip being "eligible" for a refund according to their website.

Palma-Formentera cancelled both ways
Jul 2020 • Couples
This is a rip-off. They sell tickets for a supposedly non-stop Palma-Formentera return, but exactly 48 hs before departure they cancelled the direct boat and sent us via Ibiza. This doubled our travel time from 3 to 6 hours, and included changing port in Ibiza by bus. It changes the whole equation on a short trip. Balearía did this very same scam both ways. My only conclusion is that there never was a direct ferry, just false advertising to lure you into buying the ticket. Each time, we had to spend about an hour on the phone with a definitely sub-par customer service to get our itineraries right. Be advised of this scam and consider it in your plans.

Mixed feelings, not sure how I’d rate this…..
Feb 2020
Fresh info and updates.

I used Balearia early morning it on February 16 between Palma and Ibiza and back to Palma late night.

1. Check in and Boarding in Palma. Fast, organized, the whole system is very structured, you can tell they have been doing this for a long time. Everybody knows their job, the whole routine is fast and smooth. The ferry actually leaves right on time or earlier. This gets good marks.

2. Ferry, the boat itself. It is nice, comfortable, lots of room, on the first crossing from Palma and Ibiza that is. It is very fast, 184 km in 2 hours, pretty good. The boat gets good marks.

3. Amenities on ferry. Only one toilet available for each men and women. The other was closed. There is a restaurant, actually 2, one on each level and a small gift shop. They are not cheap; the bottled water is small and expensive. Not many choices and fast and cheap snacks. Here it fails.

4. The Ibiza terminal. It is disgusting. Large, cold, empty, dirty, uncomfortable plastic seats one small snack bar with only a few small and dirty tables, nowhere to sit in this large but unfriendly hall . You would think Balearia would spend some funds and update their facilities, it is a profitable business nonetheless. The worst is still to come. There are no washrooms, there is nowhere to wash your hands or refresh, not to mention other things. Both men and women washrooms were under repairs from February 3 to March 10. For the ones in urgent needs there were 2 portable toilets outside, I could even get in, the smell was unbearable. Just before the last departure, at 8:00 pm there were at least 200 people, can’t even imagine how many looked for a washroom on a cold evening of February. People did not know where to line up for boarding, there was no instruction or proper guidance where to line up to board the ferry. Am I done? Ibiza terminal doesn’t even get one star!

5. The ferry was packed on the way back to Palma, I think the maximum occupant load was exceeded. Barely enough seats for everybody, I sat on the floor, the TV area was packed due to a soccer game. Just too many people coming back to Palma for the night, I am not sure if this is usual but remember we are talking February, I can even imagine how is it during peak season.

I wrote the review; you draw your own conclusions.

Terrific experience
Nov 2019
We used this service from Ibiza to Barcelona and were for a pleasant travel. Being our first cruise journey, haven't expected the kind of size which welcomed us. 6 hour long cruise went boring after some time though... The food in the restaurant is not great and there are hardly any vegetarian options.

Terrible customer service, avoid Balearia at all costs!
Nov 2019
This company cancelled my evening boat from Ibiza to Palma WITHOUT INFORMING ME IN ADVANCE, I only learnt when I arrived at the port. The staff said they sent a text message and it's not their fault it didn't arrive at all, they blamed it on the fact that I have a foreign phone number, and din't even say sorry. They offered me a boat at 3am, and didn't care at all that I got stranded with ALL MY LUGGAGE and had no place to go, offered NO drinks or snacks, or even a recommendation on a safe and warm place in which I could wait for the next boat. As a solo female traveller, I was distressed, as I had to walk on my own for 40min to the town centre and then wander around the centre with all my bags. I as distressed and cold, and the staff refused speaking English with me even though I found it extremely difficult to communicate with them in Spanish. as a result, I lost my hotel booking in Palma and had to cover additonal expenses on my own (food, taxis, drinks). I filled in a complaint on Balearia's website 7 days ago and they still didn;t bother to get back to me. I definitely will never use their services again and will discourage everyone I know from travelling with Balearia. Too much stress, too little professionalism.

Got a bus from Santa Eulalia to the port. The ferry was getting ready to sail so got on and paid on board. About 45 minutes later we arrived in the port. Coming back it was the same. There is a bar on board and toilets.

Promoting false information
Oct 2019 • Friends
We have decided to buy online ticket with Balearia since they promote themselves very proudly to have ferries going every 30 min.
When we came to the Harbour we were told that the next one is in an hour. I have asked how is that possible, since the website says every 30min, I was told by very unfriendly lady at the tickets office that “it is impossible and I have read it wrong”. She was not willing to show us where the boat will be leaving from or refund the tickets so that we can go with another company.

In my option if they sell you the wrong information, the lest they can do is to give you a refund so that you can choose another transport.

Brilliant Experience
Sep 2019 • Couples
We travelled from Ibiza to Formentera. The crossing took 30mins. The ferries leave on the hour and half hour.
We just turned up and booked our open return ticket on board.
The ferry is very comfortable and the crossing was smooth.
The staff were very good and polite. They recommended a company to hire a moped from on Formentera, who also turned out to be excellent.
