The Holstentor inscribed 1477 - 1871 is not far from the train station. Our first view of it was in pouring rain, but on another sunny day, many including ourselves enjoyed the garden park surrounding it. Benches were available.
Whether you visit the Holstentor before or after the Hanseatic Museum makes no difference, but do be sure to visit it. It gives a solid but not overwhelming background

It was easy to drive there from Hamburg. The car had English speaking navigation. When we got there, parking in one of the garages was easy too. I highly recommend it. Had dinner there in an open plaza. It was fun.
