Very cosy classic atmosphere. Only one disadvantage - long bathroom queues. Otherwise all great - stage is good to see from all locations, service in the breaks is fast .

We have been to may concert / opera venues and this is one of the best. You enter at the level of the cloakrooms so you leave your coat immediately. Many attendants so no waits. Lots of space to walk about. The auditorium has comfortable...More

I've been to the Aalto a few times, on each occasion as part of an multi-night opera/train trip. i.e. Essen is roughly midway between Amsterdam and Berlin. The Aalto theatre is named after the architect, who sadly died before its completion. Whether it's a masterpiece...More

We are lucky, live five minutes away. Great, always more options than we can do, first class all the way.

We would have loved to be able to see an opera or event in this beautiful building but there was nothing on. However we did walk round the extensive and beautiful foyers and managed a peep in to the auditorium. A masterpiece.

It's a really wonderful space! A building designed in the late 1950's by a Finnish architect, which was not actually built until the late 1980's and which now sits comfortably in Essen's Stadtgarten with its neighbour the celebrated Philharmonie. Internally, none of the stuffiness of...More
