The imposing building standing firmly on the corner of a busy, noisy road - is a testimony to how much work has gone on to make the inside a place of learning, of beauty, of fascination and quite simply, of joy. It is no longer...More

A very interesting audio tour is available for this former synagogue, detailing its history and the history of the Jews in and around Essen. There is a great deal of extra information about Judaism and traditions as well as about the building.

While the building is exquisite, the exposition inside suffers from lack of legend (only in German). It is worthy visiting however but 30 minutes is enough I suppose. The entrance is free.
