We toured by on a Saturday and there was a continual stream of newly weds filtering out of the building. It was interesting to see the various architecture styles as you walk around the building.

The Rathaus has several buildings and style of architecture so you might not think they are all connected. The older tower has many carvings with ties to Roman times when Cologne was part of the Roman empire. I wish I would have study this before...More

Entry is free, and at one level it is just a town hall. But the space is magnificent. The paintings are very interesting, the sculpture fascinating, and the Christmas tree was superb.

Visiting the Christmas market and they were open for business, so we went inside and toured the ground floor. Very interesting art piece hanging from the ceiling and excellent, free WC.

The original roman building is still standing and they are doing excavation around this. Lots of weddings
