About
This giant Gothic cathedral, which until its completion in 1880 had been under construction for over 500 years, is perhaps Germany's most famous religious structure and includes two huge towers that serve as the defining symbol of Cologne's skyline.

    Great views, tight climb!
If you want a good photo of the exterior, consider being there at 8am before the crowds.9I knew about the number of steps in advance so that was no surprise. A tight climb, up a winding staircase but worth it if you are able. Great views from the top. The Köln Triangle, across the river, has a lift and has lovely views too. Do both!

If you see nothing else when in Cologne, you MUST see this Cathedral!
Next door to the main train station the Cathedral's location means it cannot be ignored! One of those "must see" places that you really "MUST see". Incredible architecture, grand windows & religious treasures: everything you would expect but on a more colossal scale. It was very busy the day we went, but there was no pressure to rush through. Would urge other visitors to also take their time, but we think that the 3+ hours estimated on Trip Advisor is excessive. Buskers & street entertainers are worth a few minutes of your time: the day we visited we were fortunate to see & hear an amazing lady bagpipe-player filling the air with Scottish tunes (an encounter of the most amazing musical juxtaposition!).

    Heaven On Earth
I had been before many years ago and the opportunity arose to visit again. Last time my late wife was with me so I loved lightning a candle for my sweetheart. A magnificent building, humbling, the windows are stunning, the architecture sensational, God truly has the best buildings. So much to see. Words cannot describe Cologne Cathedral

    Impressive but not beautiful.
I know it's old, it's huge and very impressive, it really does have to be seen to be believed, the organ pipes, the stained glass windows are amazing, but the building itself, while being impressive isn't actually a thing of outstanding beauty. It dominates, towers over the city, but to me in a threatening, menacing way. Having said that, it is so very worth visiting.

    Fabulous cathedral
Superb cathedral - gallons of history - built in 12th century, and finished only in 20th century, added and added to. Cavernous space inside and really peaceful. You can (for a fee) climb the tower for a lovely view. 530 steps upwards!!

    Awe-inspiring, inside and out
As you come out of the Cologne train station you're astonished by the sight of this massive cathedral. It was awe-inspiring to see and incredible to think that construction on this beauty began in 1248. We spent time outside just gazing at this masterpiece which is the tallest twin-spired church in the world and a World Heritage Site. Once inside, you get a whole new perspective. From the hustle and bustle of the outside experience, to the quiet grace of the interior with its magical and vast stained glass windows and many corners and angles. It's a must-visit. You do not have to pay to go inside although donations are welcome.

Guided tour then walk to the top of the tower
We spent an amazing 2 hours in Cologne Cathedral, first with a small, guided tour, then walking up to the top of the tower. Our guide was very dynamic and knowledgeable and really made the visit special for us and in our opinion well worth the price. After the tour, we continued to roam around on our own, then walked to the top of the tower. TIPS > Joining a small tour gets you into some areas of the cathedral that the general public (with free access) is not permitted. > Tours are arranged in the white building across from the cathedral entrance. > The bathrooms in the basement of the tour booking building were very clean and not crowded at all.

    Majestic
If you have been to Cologne it is impossible that you have not seen the cathedral, it is majestic, imposing and visible from every side of the historic center of the city. The interior is full of details, the Gothic style is beautiful. Unfortunately the city does not live up to its cathedral, it is dirty, inhospitable (there are no benches and the few that are shops) full of homeless people

    A beautiful cathedral
A beautiful example of gothic architecture, and one of the first things you see when coming out of the main train station in cologne. Everywhere you look there's something to see at this cathedral. The stained glass windows are stunning as well. Definitely worth a visit.

Both the symbol and the brand of the city!
The first thing that immediately comes to mind with the word Cologne is the Cologne Cathedral (Dom). Cologne Cathedral is visited by about 6 million people annually and it is the most popular attraction in Germany, if, of course, this can be said about the current Catholic Church. When you see the splendor of these towers soaring into the sky, these openwork carvings and fabulous stained-glass windows, you involuntarily admire human genius, intelligence and work.

One of the most amazing cathedrals I have ever seen. It was very crowded but worth it. I highly recommend going there if you are in Cologne

Saw this many times over a daily basis and it is extraordinary to see.its just at rhe endof the main bridge over the river rhein and free to enter.
I believe there a viewpoint that you can pay to see for a few euros but I didn't do this as I did donthe cable car, ferris wheel and koln triangle viewpoint but I can imagine it should be good due to being quite central

Spectacular cathedral! Admission is free, so even after my main visit I would pop in for a few minutes if I wound up in the area again. At times some sections are roped off for mass. The interior is cavernous and soaring and awe-inspiring. Great stained glass; my favorite was the contemporary one by Gerhard Richter. Spend some time to just sit in a pew and soak it all in. Also climbed the tower (533 steps!); it’s nice if you, like me, like to get the lay of the land from a vantage point but the top is encased in steel wire so, be warned, you won’t get many nice photo ops (if you want a great view, cross the bridge and go to the viewing deck at the top of the Köln Triangle).

What a great visit. We didn't know the cathedral gets more visits per day than Neuschwanstein. Entry is free, but we took an English tour led by an art historian (available on website) it was very informative and gets you into the closed area where the shrine of the magi relics is located.

Breathtaking experience! A must visit in cologne… we visited twice. It was less busy in the morning. Wheelchair access was good although didn’t spend long there.

I was actually travelling by train from near Duisburg to Cologne airport - but I had to come out of Cologne station to have a look at the Cathedral.

Its splendour takes your breath away.

Best known and most visited site, mainly due to the massive size of the church. Interior is devoid of much of the displays that were once here. Highlights include the reliquary of the Three Kings, the large stone of the main alter, and the large centuries old wooden crucifix.

Wow! We walked out from the Cologne train station straight into the front of the cathedral. Stunningly beautiful architecture! Much more beautiful than I was expecting.
