This church looks quite plain on the outside and is mostly painted white internally. However there is a lot of amazing woodwork inside including a pulpit, organ, ornate doors and not forgetting the ancient clock. There is also a painting depicting Rostock following a WW2...More

The church has a beautiful alter and pipe organ, but the most intestering feature is the astronomical clock built in 1472. The clock meaures time, moom phase, zodiac, and month.

Old churches and Cathedrals abound in Europe. This is a special one that contains some interesting and unique items. The Astronomical Clock is justifiably famous. I just missed the noon time display which I’ve hear is worth seeing. There is a crypt with an incredible...More

Sankt Marien Kirche (St Mary’s Church) is the largest church in the Hanseatic city of Rostock, Germany. Heavy air raids during World War 2 meant that much of the city was destroyed, but although it suffered damage, the church was saved. It is well worth...More

I will say that when touring Europe after awhile one cathedral begins to look like the last and it is hard to remember one from the other. However, this is truly a magnificent cathedral and not only for its grandeur , but also for the...More
