- AvidTraveler12Winchester, United Kingdom1,829 contributionsA Visit to the Local Town Hall???I did not realise that a visit to the local Town Hall would be so interesting. Hannover was flattened during WWII yet the Town Hall argueably Hannover's largest building at the time was virtually untouched. How do I know this? There are 4 large models in the reception area showing what Hannover looked like in medieval times, pre WWII, post WWII and now. These are excellent models. The view from the dome is fantastic & well worth going.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 May 2024
- Rebecca K22 contributionsBeautiful building, historicalDefinitely add this attraction to your list of “must-see” places in Hannover! It is free admission but there is an added expense if you want to climb to the top and go to the viewing platform. Unfortunately we got there about an hour before it closed and they were no longer allowing people up to the overlook. The inside is amazing though!Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 26 May 2024
- Anzor G9 contributionsGreat views from the topThe building is very nice, they take you upstairs to the viewing platform from which we can see the entire city all around. Afterwards, you can sit and relax in a café on the first floor overlooking the pond and the park. Overall, it’s a beautiful place to spend a couple of hours. There is also a city bus tour that starts in front of the building, unfortunately we didn’t get to do that, but have heard good things about it.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 July 2024
- Steve C5 contributionsNot so New- Nues Rathaus HanoverThe Rathaus is a fantastic and spectacular example of masnry and woodworking craftsmanship. Very impressive from outside and equally impressive inside. The rather seemed to escape the very heavy bombing during the war that flattened the city. There are a number of city models (diaoramas) illustrating the cities history from middle ages to present day. The 1939 and contrasting 1946 displays illustrat the deviation. The small inclined elevator ride to the top of the tower is also worthwhile- fantastic panoramic 360 degree views over the city and surrounds. Very enjoyable experience.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 September 2024

One of the must-see attractions in Hannover. Inside there are city models of Hanover from different eras and the logos of the friendly cities. The observation deck is the most impressive and overlooks the whole of Hanover. And the lifts that go up and down at an angle are special and interesting. The lift doesn't take you directly to the observation deck, you have to take a steep revolving staircase and it's very windy up there, so it's not recommended for people with limited mobility. Next door is Marschsee.

The new town hall is definitelly a most beautiful building in the city and a must see in Hannover. From the front it looks magnificient and breathtaking and from the back together with a little lake romantic. It became my favorite place to photograph.

The new town hall is a beautiful uvula building with a beautiful front view. At the back, the image of the pond is also beautiful. We took a look inside at the models of Hannover over the years. There you can clearly see how the city was affected by the bombings in WWII. And on the Saturday we were there, it was teeming with bridal couples both inside and outside. If you want, you can visit the dome with a special elevator.

What can I say? It is simply the most beautiful place to visit in town: very beautiful architecture, a park nearby and a lake and so many nice coffee places and restaurants! Personally I love the view from the park especially during winter. The lake turns into a mirror and you see the reflection of the castle in it. Magical!

We visited the Town Hall as part of a tour of Europe. The building is absolutely stunning inside and out. Badly damaged during WW2 it has been restored to a very high standard. The architecture within is highly elaborate.
On the ground floor are detailed models of Hannover before and after the war - very interesting and the models are highly detailed, worth a look.

Fantastically beautiful town hall which is still in use. You enter the large domed hall via a beautiful entrance area.
It is a very nice building. In the dome hall are 3 models of Hannover 1939, 1945 and today.
Unbelievable that such a beautiful city has come out of the ruins.
Free access.

Impressive town hall and highly recommended to visit. Free access. You can take a lift to the dome to have a fantastic view over Hanover to the Harz! The lift is an experience in itself, going first horizontally and the last part vertically at a 17 degree angle. Cost 4 euros per person.

Do you have records of ownership dating back to the thirties and before? Looking for the street/building of my husband's grandparents who were forced to leave in the thirties.....

Hello , I looked up how to trace my ancestors and there is lots of info on how to trace ancestors etc. Also my husbands father lives in Germany (not Hannover) and he says to get in touch with the Hannover Rathaus (Town Hall) and they may be able to point you in the right direction. Or if you just look online how do I trace my German ancestors, you may find out how. incidently, we were in Maryland in early September staying at Tolchester in the Chestertown area, and actually drove through Centervile twice. Once when we went to Washington DC and again to Queenstown shopping centre, Centerville looks very pretty. So that is very good that we have a connection. Wishing you all the very best in tracing your relations. By the way it's free to go into the Rathaus in Hannover and is well worth a visit, it's easy to get to on the metro. Good luck

Hallo,
Es gibt viele Parkplätze in der Nähe des Rathaus (im Zentrum der Stadt), aber man muss bezahlen.
