Certainly a lovely tourist attraction. I would recommend walk along the castle walks which gives you a view of the area from different angles. This should take about 2 hour or slightly more. Lots of scenic postcard views if you are camera person.

Took a nice stroll in the city walls this morning about 8:00am, before the crowds. Had the walk to ourselves until toward the end of our outing. Beautiful views and interesting to see names/cities of donors who helped restore the walls.

The town walls are free to walk around anytime of day. You can’t walk on every piece, but you can find another part shortly you can climb up and walk after you have climbed down from one area. I would say it would take you...More

Touring Rothenburg you could easily miss the steps to the wall top. Getting up requires some bravery the steps are very steep. One up top you could easily stroll along and look out the arrowslits. Being on top of the wall also gave great views...More

Walking the walls, either day or night, are a great way to see Rothernburg odT. Some spots are narrow, and communication and awareness of your fellow travelers is required. There are guard ropes, so even if you are afraid of heights, still worth the try.

We walked the entire city in around two hours - this with many stops for photographing as well as a quick stop at an antique shop. Some of the walk is outside but the majority is on the wall itself. Be careful if you are...More

After the Night Watchman's Tour, we decided to walk the wall. The names on the walls are from patrons who sent money to help rebuild Rothenburg. Sometimes the steps are a bit tricky so little kids should be careful. Great views of the city from...More

Part of the wall was destroyed during WW II. The plaques are for people who donated from around the world for the wall to be rebuilt. I believe that the donation was around 1500 US dollars.

There are many places to get up onto the wall. I would recommend simply walking along the wall until you reach a staircase. There are plenty of these access points along the way.
