Heidelberg has appeal, Bamberg was nice but if you seek medieval charm Rothenburg is the place you cannot miss! I walked from the train station & was pleasantly greeted by one of the many historic gate entrances. Take the stairs up and enjoy a stroll...More

So beautiful town, good parking around the town walls. A lot of tourists but it was not to overwhelming. Some great cafes and some nice shops along the main street. We would love to visit again.

Rothenburg's famous city wall is part of its medieval charm, even though part of the wall was destroyed in WWII and had to be rebuilt. It's fun to talk the narrow walkway atop the wall, looking down at the houses it protects and occasionally looking...More

It's great fun to walk the walls after the tour and discuss the history. We loved this. It's free and accessible any time.

I couldn't get enough of this town! It has so much history and so many beautiful buildings and views. The best way to see things, outside of walking around Old Town, was to walk around the city wall. It's open at all times and almost...More

A walk on the town wall is especially nice in the evening, when all the lights in town give the real fairy tale feeling. It's not particularly difficult to climb, there are stairs every now and then along the wall. Easy access from the Siebers...More

Incredible views from the old ramparts and an insight into the history of this beautiful town. Careful if you have children and not suitable for those with any mobility issues due to steep steps and uneven ground.

The walls around the town of Rottenburg have been there since the 1400's. There is a walkway around the top of the walls that will take you from tower to tower all around the town. Plan on spending some time, about an hour and a...More

Loved walking around the city through the old walls. It really does provide an interesting perspective from up above of the same places. They seem to look different. It’s about 1.5 miles to walk around the entire wall, and you have to detour at some...More

Part of the wall was destroyed during WW II. The plaques are for people who donated from around the world for the wall to be rebuilt. I believe that the donation was around 1500 US dollars.

There are many places to get up onto the wall. I would recommend simply walking along the wall until you reach a staircase. There are plenty of these access points along the way.
