Definitely worth a visit as Rothenburg is such a picture postcard town with its quaint and historic buildings. Christmas Market is set in the lovely square.
Most tourists come for the day so it was very quiet at night.
An absolutely wonderful experience. Beautiful architecture, charm, history. A great walled medieval town dating to before 1100. Nice shops and cafes. It is especially charming during Advent with the Christmas Market.
We were misinformed that 1 day would be enough to explore the old town and now wish we had of stayed a bit longer. Quieter than many comparable old towns in Europe but such a lovely atmosphere. We will definitely return for more than 1...More
We were driving through the area on our way to southern Germany and decided to stop here to walk and explore for a couple of hours. Parking was very difficult (it was a Saturday). They have lots all around the old town, if you are...More
This compact medieval Old Town has retained a large number of its buildings. We were there in late October so the tourist crowds weren't bad, and the bus groups leave before dark, when the town is all the more charming. Stay overnight if you can.
The Old Town of Rothenburg is so enchanting - and famous for having scenes from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang filmed here (the scene with the kiddy catcher in the square)
So many wonderful shops, restaurants and things to see and do. Walk the town walls.
Old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber is located in Franconia, a south region in Germany. It is a wonderful little medieval town, where you can enjoy a lot walking in the streets, seeing the fantastic buildings and, going up to the wall, which surrounds...More
Much better than Heidelberg. This is not a city with a historic centre but a small medieval town instead. No traffic or city buzz. All houses are amazing, fairy tale style. Try climbing all the way to the tower.

We took the Romantischen Strasse from Munich to Frankfurt and we visited a few cities. The ones we liked the most were Landsberg (1/2 day) and Rothenburg (worth at least a whole day). Augsburg and Bad Merthingen (1/2 day each) were worth a stop. There is a beautiful castle in Harburg but it was closed when we passed by. Enjoy, it is a very nice ride. For curiosity, despite the fact Landsberg is a very cute town, it was the place where Hitler was arrested after the coup in 1923 and where he wore his book Mein Kampf.
