This is a rare treat - a German medieval town that survived the bombing of the WW2. Walk in photogenic streets, step back in time na d enjoy this old town and all its fine architecture. All surrounded by the old city walls - a...More
We were travelling from Czech republic to France and decided to stop here. Beautiful town, it could be the prototype of German old towns that you have in your mind. We spent there 3 hours, enough to walk the town and have lunch.
"Romantische Straße" is adorned with so many interesting and lovely little medieval towns. Rothenburg is considered a gem, maybe THE gem.
True, but unfortunately some of the experience is ruined by the hords of tourists. The town has accepted the crowds and of course make...More
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is an impressive old town with wonderful cobbled streets and picturesque buildings. This is a must see when you are in this region of Germany. We traveled by train from Nuremberg to this beautiful town and it was every bit as...More
I think this is the same as the Das Plonlein area you find on trip advisor. It's the reason why people go to Rothenburg, it looks identical to what it did over 100 years ago with cobblestone roads, old buildings and plenty of shops, hotels...More
Rothenburg is a living fairy tale town. You can have hours of fun just walking around admiring the building going back hundreds of years. Stop at the many caffees and have a cup of coffee while enjoying people watching.
This is a wonderful, very old, quaint, little. medieval town. Easy to walk around and see the buildings. It is a tourist area, no doubt. Lots of day trippers coming in groups. A great place to stroll and get a map and follow the walking...More

We took the Romantischen Strasse from Munich to Frankfurt and we visited a few cities. The ones we liked the most were Landsberg (1/2 day) and Rothenburg (worth at least a whole day). Augsburg and Bad Merthingen (1/2 day each) were worth a stop. There is a beautiful castle in Harburg but it was closed when we passed by. Enjoy, it is a very nice ride. For curiosity, despite the fact Landsberg is a very cute town, it was the place where Hitler was arrested after the coup in 1923 and where he wore his book Mein Kampf.
