This museum is definitely a must-see when visiting Nuremberg, as it houses one of the most significant German art collections, ranging from medieval painting, sculpture and arts & crafts, to fairly contemporary ones. It also offers a great insight into the daily lives of people...More

We were pleased to note it was free when we arrived at 5Pm but it also closes at 6Pm and there is nowhere near enough time to see everything. It contains something from everyone from art to religion to war but if you do want...More

Dear Feneant, thank you for your nice comment and for your kind advice about the free Admission for the last hour. Every Wednesday evening is free entrance from 18:00 to 21:00 (except for the special exhibitions). We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your...More

We arrived about an hour before closing, and were told that, because of that, entrance was free. The downside is that an hour isn't nearly enough time to see all of the absorbing exhibits. Bags and purses need to be put in lockers.

The permanent collection is quite splendid, but this time we particularly enjoyed one of the special exhibitions, about painting and photography in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the growing influence of photography on painting as the former became more sophisticated. It is well...More

We recommend the audio guide, even if you arrive an hour before closing. They have art, incl. works by Durer, but what is perhaps more interesting are the artifacts--scientific instruments, the first globe, an extensive textiles and furniture section, and an extensive weapons section. That's...More

The is a truly enormous museum so allow some time. I went on a hot Saturday afternoon and was virtually alone in all that vastness. The museum includes a lot of religious carvings, ancient musical instruments and one of the best Roman Helmets I have...More

Don’t miss this museum. It has a vast collection of objects in themed displays and even in a full day there, with a break at their excellent cafe for lunch, we couldn’t get through everything we wanted to see. Their medieval collection in particular is...More

I can't recommend this museum too highly - in fifty years of travelling, I thought it one of the best museums I've ever been to. It has a marvellous, eclectic collection, including wonderful paintings from the Northern Renaissance, a superb collection of armour, scientific instruments...More

Of our two weeks in Germany, touring seven cities, this was one of the highlights. The collections displayed were among the finest, descriptions expertly done and very educational, and everything beautifully arranged. All about the positive past, from middle ages, touch of roman, hint of modern. There is something for most tastes and some must see displays like the globe without the USA! Loved the fashion, the farmhouse and the art.
