Great square to have a walk, and buy some gifts. Theres a lot of restaurants and coffes were you can have an expresso or a beer. It's an expensive zone of München, but it really pleaseant to have a walk there.

@Wendy - Yes most definitely. Marienplatz is in the heart of Munich. Many downtown attractions like "Hofbraeuhaus", "Viktualienmarkt" or "Frauenkirche" are less than 3 minute walk from Marienplatz. - Hope that helps - have... More

Marienplatz is a district/square where they have the daily Glockenspiel event with the huge cuckoo clock. There are street performers, restaurants and open street market lots of shops etc. It is the heart of the tourist... More

We did not pay to walk around it. It hosts the mayor and city council. We had lunch at the historic restaurant, Ratskeller.
