A real living Place of the Bavarian royal family. With a huge timeline history. Buy your tickets at the museum of the Bavarian kings best in a combination ticket . (Hohenschwangau an Museum). If you stay in the area of Füssen don’t forget to show...More

Love visiting historical castles and this was also on the route to see the Neuschwanstein castle. Well maintained and speaks a lot about history of the Kings. Must visit if you are in the area.

My wife and I were able to take a day trip to visit Hohenschwangau Castle and the surrounding area. The trip from Munich to the Füssen area is an easy one. We decided to rent a car from the Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) rather than...More

We managed to score early afternoon tickets to Schloss Hohenchwangau without advanced reservations. The English tour was quite informative. This castle is perhaps the simplest of Ludwig's many castles since it served as a hunting lodge. The simple interior decor manifests this purpose with many...More

This is not a medieval castle. It is essentially a 19th century estate. Not grand, opulent or magnificent. You will spend alot of money getting to Schwangau, battle hoards of pushy tourists and pay expensive tour prices for 30-45 minutes of touring 1/4 of the...More

Come see the imperial family’s summer home. Beautiful in every season with great views of Neuschwanstein. The inside is lovely and tells a nice story. All of the furniture and fixtures are original from the 1830s. This is where the family spent a lot of...More

I wouldn’t say it’s less impressive than the Neuschwanstein castle but it is different and smaller. The garden is gorgeous and picture perfect. They have a little gift shop as well. Did not buy tickets to go inside but still enjoyed the view of the...More

Yes, definitely! The walk up to the castle is nice & the small fountain garden is pretty too, but I wouldn’t skip the castle due to rain. We actually enjoyed this castle the most.
