Worth visiting if you have the time. Hike up, if you're able and get tickets ahead of time. Gives you a great history of the castles and King Ludwig before going over to Neuschwanstein.

We visited this castle same day as Neuschwanstein. The views of it, from, and of it from Neuschwanstein were beautiful! Although it was lovely, I probably would not have chosen it, had it not been for the fact it is in such close proximity to...More

We went to Schloss Hohenschwangau so that we could at least see one castles should we not be able to see Neuschwanstein Castle, which we were able to do with a combined ticket. The area around the castle is beautiful, and we both enjoyed the...More

Same goes for here as for Neuschwanstein unfortunately: it is a victim of it's own popularity and not worth going all the way there to stand in a line. It is much better to spend time elsewhere and take a photo from the road.

We visited this castle in addition to Neuschwanstein, and are so glad we made time to stay and tour it. It was an excellent counterpoint to the other castle: a family home that felt cozy and livable, on a more realistic and manageable scale. Beautiful...More

Recommend seeing this with a combined ticket for Neuschwanstein. The ticket centre can help you tee up the entry times for the two castles to allow enough time to get between them. Otherwise I recommend reserving your tickets and allowing two hours between the tours....More

We went on a tour of this castle, as it was easier for our travel partners to tour than Neuschwanstein. We were not disappointed. The castle itself is gorgeous! The grounds are amazing, and the views were spectacular! We went on the guided tour, which...More

The older Hohenschwangau, King Ludwig's boyhood home, is less famous but more historic. So.....tips.....let's go..... 1) If you use a car - choose Fussen as a home base town (10 minutes drive to both castles) as the closest and convenient place 2) If arriving by...More

Breathtaking location, really well organised tour, don't forget to book a ticket online to gain entry. Really informative guide with lots of information on the reconstruction of the castle, the history of the area and the magnificent high-romantic wall paintings.

Yes, definitely! The walk up to the castle is nice & the small fountain garden is pretty too, but I wouldn’t skip the castle due to rain. We actually enjoyed this castle the most.
