The museum, situated in a beautiful square near the parish church, pays tribute to one of the oldest industries of Mittenwald - making violins, of which even Mozart possessed an example! The rooms are well set out so that you can view these ancient and...More

…because I really liked the museum very much. The other reviewers told of the many things that fascinated me. We spent two hours there soaking up all of the information. However, this is a museum about making musical instruments. How can you appreciate it without...More

A beautiful building down a pretty street behind the church. The cheery man on the desk advised us to watch the 9 minute English video first. This explained the history of violin making & was a good starting place. It is a small museum but...More

Our family of four visited the Geigenbaumuseum today and found it interesting although not overly stimulating. You learn about the history of violin making juxtaposed with Mittenwald's history and living. Since I am not a musician, I found this story telling to be the most...More

The museum takes you through the history of violin-making in Mittenwald, and the prominent role that violin-making played in the history of the town. There are some hands-on exhibits, but I don't think this would be a particularly interesting venue for young children unless they...More

I found the Violin Museum absolutely fascinating. One could take photographs of anything and there was information also in English.

During our trip tour, we were able to not only do a self guided tour of the museum but also a very knowledgeable lady spoke to us about the art of construction of the instruments.

We popped into this museum on a rainy afternoon. Although neither of us are violinists, we found the museum interesting and informative. The staff are very welcoming and happy to chat. The history of violin making is very central to the people of Mittenwald. Don't...More

We were just visiting the lovely town of Mittenwald and looked for the Violin Museum. We toured the museum, watched a movie, and watched a gentleman carve a violin. It is a true craft that one has to love. We could have watched him for...More

This was part of the reason for our visit to Mittenwald. Violins have been made here since the early violins were being made in Italy by the famous makers. There are many different instruments available to see here including gambas and d'amores. The displays are...More
