Me, my daughters and the husband of one of them decided to visit the great attraction of Ulm and of course climb the so-called highest church tower in Germany. We went straight to the machine that sells the tickets to go up on the tower and we bought the 4 tickets for the full price to go up on the tower. Neither of us noticed anything unusual and we headed for the stairs with the high expectation that we would be climbing the tallest church tower in Germany. We arrived at a place that I estimate to be 1/3 the height that we should be climbing and we didn't find any more stairs to continue climbing. We found a staircase, but with the access closed, other people were also looking for access and we had no information that they had closed access to the rest of the tower. Without being able to go up, we had no alternative but to go down totally frustrated.
We went to complain at Munster's own souvenir shop and the lady who was there simply ignored us. He said there was a warning that access to the tower was forbidden. Well, with great difficulty we were able to locate the sign, which actually looked like a poster with a picture of Munster positioned far from the ticket vending machine had nothing like an attention in red, or an "Achtung", simply a poster far from the place where the ticket was purchased and paid for.
I get the impression that the intention of whoever made that poster and put it there was precisely so that tourists would not aim and deposit their money there with the expectation that they would be able to climb to the top of the tower. It seemed to me that I was being deceived as if I were in front of a slot machine to raise funds for the Catholic Church.
That impression was even stronger when I visited Linderhof Castle the next day. There they have a price for the summer that includes a view of the gardens and a lower price for the winter when it is possible to visit only the castle. This is what I consider an honest and transparent way to treat visitors.

As of May 20, 2022, northern the english language city website or the church’s german only website will tell you the steeple is under repair and is closed. For five euros you can go to about a third of the way up. So if you travel a specifically to climb the tallest steeple in Euro your out of luck, and out of train fare. If you’re in Koln, or Munich or any other major city, the interior of the church is on par, maybe a bit plain as it is Protestant and not catholic.

The architecture is incredibly mesmerizing, and it makes you take a moment to appreciate the sophistication of what the builders were able to do. I actually recommend you ascend all the way to the summit, but be advised: maybe not for the faint of heart. After all, it's the tallest church steeple in the world!

A truly magnificent cathedral that is well worth a visit if you are in the region.

Impressive Lutheran Church in Gothic style, dating back to 1377 designed by a famous German architect family, the Parlers. It took 513 years to build; in fact, given the high costs, construction was often stopped. Famous in particular for having the highest Bell Tower in the World, 161, 53 meters, reached by a staircase of 768 steps. But it is not only the Bell Tower, which dominates the city, that is the strong point of the Cathedral, but also some art treasures inside: the 15th century choir of Syrlins the Elder; the pulpit with acoustic cover of Syrlins the Younger; altar and imposing window of the Choir; the Besserer and Neithart Chapels, the tabernacle and Multscher's Man of Sorrows. In short, it is definitely worth the visit

I love visiting churches throughout Europe for the art and the history. This church had both and was a joy to visit. I really enjoyed looking at the wooden carvings of the faces. Visiting was a great way to escape the drizzle outside for a bit.

Construction of the Ulmer Minster began in the 14th century, but the current cathedral was only fully completed in 1890. The interior of the Münster contains frescoes, paintings, statues, altarpieces, coats of arm, stained glass windows and wonderful 15th century choir stalls by Jörg Syrlin (1469–1474).
The steeple is the tallest in the world (161.53 meters, 530 feet), can be reached by climbing 768 steps and offers an amazing view of Ulm and the region.
When I visited (end of June 2023) the Minster Tower was only accessible up to the first platform (70 meters, 229 feet) and parts of the nave were closed to visitors, due to renovation works.

Visiting Ulm Münster was an awe-inspiring experience. The sheer grandeur and beauty of this architectural masterpiece left me speechless. From the moment I laid eyes on its towering spire, I knew I was in for something special.

Exploring the interior was like stepping back in time, with every corner revealing intricate details and centuries of history. The breathtaking stained glass windows cast colorful rays of light, creating a serene atmosphere.

Climbing to the top of the spire was both exhilarating and rewarding. The panoramic views of Ulm and the surrounding countryside were simply breathtaking.

Overall, Ulm Münster is a must-visit for anyone traveling to the region. Its beauty and historical significance make it a true gem of Germany.

The cathedral juts out of a WW2 US Army Air Force blasted desolate surrounding, almost like an oasis in the desert.

As soon as I walked inside the massive space, you can feel the cold and very musty smell, telling you all you need to know about the age and grand structure you find yourself in.

From the reconstructed lead light windows to the hand chiselled pink and beige stone floors, this is something to behold in a somewhat sleepy and forgotten city, that is Ulm.

Certainly worth a visit for this grand daddy, that still ranks as the tallest religious building in the world.

The tallest Gothic bell tower in the world. Immense and wonderful. There is an entrance fee, unfortunately we didn't enter due to lack of time, it was practically closing. The square it overlooks is large and allows you to enjoy its grandeur very well.

The cathedral with the tallest bell tower in the world is Ulm's unmissable attraction: imposing from the square below but visible from almost every point of the city! Even the interior with mosaic windows and many arches recalls the verticality of this structure. Free entry, there are no reasons not to visit it.
