Lovely cobbled streets and interesting old buildings. Lots of eateries and shops. Reasonably priced.

We visited our old hometown in late November, to see our old haunts and to visit the Christmas markets. Heidelberg is so walkable, with delightful stores, side streets, old buildings, the castle - of course, and so many other things to see and do, along...More

Seeing the Christmas decorations in the old town put the fective cheer into all. Having some gluhwein on a cold rainy day made it a great trip

Visited as the Christmas season was beginning. Charming German town full of little shops....delicious sights and smells. Easily walkable. Visit the historic castle, too!

The Old Town is unusual for Europe - it was not destroyed by bombing during WWII. For that alone it is worth the visit. The architecture is really hundreds of years old - not much has changed.

If you compare Karlsruhe and Heidelberg, I would chose Heidelberg without doubts. The only thing that you may not like in the old town area is many tourists.

My family and I had a wonderful time sight seeing and visiting stores on our visit. Most of the people speak English which was wonderful. My family and I love to visit old historic sights and Altstadt did not dissapoint.

Always love our trips to Germany but to Altstadt is very special. Lots of local restaurants and quirky shops. We loved the bakery open for a few hours on Sunday morning to get the fresh salty bread. Beautiful walks and lots to do. Centrally located....More

I am not sure. I was there on Easter day and it was closed, but people could walk on the terrace. The Germans respect the weekends and holidays... Unfortunately, the shops, for instance, do not show anywhere their opening... More
