While we waited to be let into our vacation rental, we saw loads of people climbing the many steps that led past our door. This included tours. We couldn't figure out what the attraction was until the next day when we realized that we were...More

To be honest having read some of the reviews questioning the safety of this area we didn't know what to expect. So glad we ignored them. This was my favourite district so much so that we went twice during the day and once at night for...More

The Panier District in the old town is a place that artists & artisans call home. This community and the art on the buildings is very interesting

Lovely to just wander around the old steep streets and look at the washing hanging out of the buildings and the colourful grafitti.

The Panier is an ancient town of Marseilles, it has lots of charming boutique shops, great restaurants and has a very medieval feel. A great place to walk around and relax. i visited 2015

It’s pity that most of the shops and restaurants are closed on Sunday, because this area is really nice to walk through on a calm Sunday afternoon. All little boutiques, small little restaurants, cosy squares with just some tables to sit down. No chains no...More

This is the oldest part of one of France's oldest cities. Narrow streets with interesting stores and small restaurants. A great square with restaurants' outside seating and the Vielle Charite, a poorhouse now restored into galleries.

A pleasant wander through quiet back streets with very little traffic, in contrast to most of Marseille. Interesting little shops and some pleasant cafes, close to the Cathedral and Mucem museum, so easy to combine a visit.

Best time to go to Marseille! There are a couple of metro stations nearby so don’t drive!

I think visiting alone during the day would be fine. There were some groups of street artists on some of the corners hanging out and playing music. Otherwise you just wander in and out of artistic little stores and galleries. More
