This is said to be Marseille’s oldest neighborhood, and it’s full of character. Some sections are better than others, but for the most part it is really cool area. Lots of interesting street art and great restaurants to try if you really want to get...More

I would have thought Marseille a rather vulgar place judging by the excessive tourism by the old port. But my tour guide showed me the charm of the narrow old streets in this Artisanale area above the quays. Charming.

To hot on a summer day with small children walking - parking is limited; nice historical site full of small germs worth a photo

One of the most interesting part of the old town with many narrow streets and small squares and patios. Here you can enjoy great food & drinks in a lovely atmosphere !

Walked around the Old Town by following one of the walks on the Town map. Found really quaint old streets and lovely squares with bars and restaurants. Do not miss this

A former neighborhood notorious for gangs but rapidly being gentrified, the district has a funky vibe. Cool bars and places to eat; historic architecture and contemporary graffiti art. Check it out.

Not far from the old port of Marseille is a charming old area of the city where you can find street art and cafes and bars.

walked from our hotel to the old quarters or La Panier. Streets are charming and stopped at quaint stores that had provence soaps and scents. many restaurants to eat the quarters. a definite visit

All the charm France can offer is shown in this neighborhood. It is packed with lovely little streets and colorful shops. I didn't feel very comfortable during the night but it is a must during the day.

We strolled around the Old Panier, stopped at the Museum of Marseille soap and bought some scented soaps made on site while you watch. We had some sodas by the old bell tower (La Tour Des Cloches) and enjoyed views of the old port

Best time to go to Marseille! There are a couple of metro stations nearby so don’t drive!

I think visiting alone during the day would be fine. There were some groups of street artists on some of the corners hanging out and playing music. Otherwise you just wander in and out of artistic little stores and galleries. More
