This is just a street with all the same shops that every other city has. Quiet a few beggars were settled along this street. There are nicer streets to walk along in Avignon for mine. The Tourist Office is located here.

To walk along the Rue de la Republique is to be on one of Avignon's 3 main streets. It is the largest of the three and it provides access to the city center from the train station. There are some nice shops and plenty of...More

Loads of places to eat opposite the Hotel de Ville. The road is closed to traffic most Saturdays afternoons so its safe to walk in the middle of the road but watch out for the bikes?

Fine tree lined boulevard beginning at the Place de L'Horloge and stretching for about half a kilometre southwards. Some very impressive buildings and a fine selection of shops, cafes and restaurants including the famous old Hiely Lucculus restaurant at no. 4.

As far as main shopping streets are concerned, this one is distinctly average and our only reason for walking down it was to find the Tourist Information Centre. I suggest that you do the same and then, with Tourist map in hand, you can visit...More

OK we visited in August but it did come across as over touristy and a bit tacky. Behind the Rue were some interesting narrow lanes with more interesting hidden places. Much better to walk and view than the Grand Rue de la Republique.

Walking through streets , looking at the buildings and think about the rich past of the city...the beauty of details , weather forged steel fences or sculpted wooden doors , decorated buildings of different times.

The street is interesting, full of cafes and shops. There are crowds here, but it's nice to go for a walk.
