Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a good longish walk around an attractive lake. The path is in excellent condition and wide.

The loop takes between 30 minutes and an hour for most people, depending on whether you're power-walking or strolling.

I would not recommend walking it alone, however, as it's quite isolated in parts.

In winter, parts of the track become submerged, making it impossible to circle the entirety of the lake.

The walk around Lake Hakanoa is an easy 3.7km flat walk through bush, global gardens and a dedicated Japanese garden which is really beautiful in the springtime with the cherry blossom and rhododendrons in flower. There is also a campground right at the lake front and a dog exercise area.

This is a pleasant 3.65 km loop walk around the lake. You'll get to see lots of birds. They also feature plants from various places, but these were small bits and not really impressive. Overall though, still a nice place for a family walk or picnic.

I have walked around this picturesque lake 3 times now and enjoy it every time. Lots of interesting flora, views, birdlife and surprises. Probably best in spring time.

I stayed with my brother who was a medical officer for a few days at the Hakanoa Medical Center. We drove up to this absolutely beautiful lake. We watched the trains go by and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. If you have the time and love walking near this quiet lake, well don't miss it. But in many areas of Hakanoa i use to smell some sort of burning coal but I was informed there was some sort of coal processing plant or factory near by. The peaceful little town of Hakonoa icy cold but filled with warm friendly people tiny clean little cafes, and all the little pavements drenched in old English songs and music. An unbelievable Paradise. You miss it and you will probably never see something so beautiful. One wonders why can't all people be so nice as these beautiful kind people. :-(
