Rouen is my hometown, but I never bothered to check the local museums. Had I continued on this path, I would have missed this hidden gem. The museum is inside of a church, that alone is worth the visit. To top it off, the items...More

This museum is near the Musee de Beaux-Arts, in an old church. They cleverly created a second story with views over the nave, so the visitor gets a great view of the hanging ironwork signs. The entry fee is modest, but the medieval locks, signs...More

This may sound boring but in fact was fascinating as it entailed a lot of social history, like the coffee mills being used at first for spices as well. Loved the haazelnut crackers! The building is also worth viewing for itself as it is a...More

This museum is unique in its focus on a huge variety of man made objects made of metal: weapons, tools, jewelry, snuff boxes, signs, railings, and many other items. It is situated in a beautiful former church. It is free to enter and is only...More

What a fantastic place, not just locks and keys but absoultly anything that can be made from wrought iron. The locks are truly inticate, they must have taken an age to make and cost a fortune. The only downside is the resticted visiting times and...More

The city of Rouen offers several free of charge good museums for the interested. This is one of them. Among the objects I liked the most were some huge old keys and locks, and some totally crazy “medical” tools...

Like a few other travellers we stumbled upon this unique museum while meandering around the streets of old Rouen. Set out in an old (very) church. A great collection of pre industrial age iron goods of all sorts. Balustrades, decorative masks, jewellery, tools, weaponry, keys,...More
