As part of are time around the beaches we also sought out the statue of Bill. What a story and bravery, a man leading the army playing his pipes whilst shoots flew around him.

We visited this beach on the anniversary of D-Day. We were a little disappointed with the lack of pomp and ceremony visible, considering the importance of the date of our visit and shocked at the lack of clear signposts to locate the beach. Still worth...More

Had a quick look around and saw one memorial to the Commandos. I can see there are a few other small memorials. Didn't see and bunkers or other defensive positions. There is the 'Grand Bunker Museum' in Ouistreham, but unfortunately didn't get time to visit....More

Now I know the French used to love the Yanks who liberated them back in 44/45 , not so much nowadays maybe ? But I'm afraid the lack of acknowledgement for the other Allies (UK, Canadian etc.) is easily seen as you progress up from...More

So much is owed to those who fought for our freedom in 1944, especially the British here at Sword Beach. Whilst there is a monument to commemorate them, that is it. Don't expect to be educated or informed to any great degree about what happened...More

Visited on the way back to the ferry at Cean. A small memorial for such a historic event. Large beach now mostly for tourists, restaurants and amusements. Worth a visit.

A poor tribute to the historic day of 6 june 1944. There is only 1 memorial on the beach commemmorating the landing of the 28845 men who landed there. The majotity of them British. In fact a greater play is made on the 177 french...More
