I liked this museum, but agree with some of the other reviewers that the lighting in the museum is a serious problem. Too dark or too bright. Also the collection does not seem very logically arranged and it is hard to navigate the place. Explanations/discussions...More

Give it a minimum of half a day and take time, as we did to explore the collection. El Grecos, Goyas, Monets Vuillards are all to be enjoyed. The basement has some good medieval artefacts and paingings and there is an amazing Donatello bas -...More

After reading other reviews we thought this worth a visit, as it said it was only second to the Louvre. It cost €14 for two of us, but I would have to say it wasn't worth the money. Some areas are so dark you can...More

Rather disappointing. We got in on a 2for1 deal using our Eurostar ticket but there is very little to guide you around once you are in. Endless rooms of paintings with poor lighting, no presentation and no explanation of the exhibits other than title artist...More

Wonderful building, not too busy when we were there, helpful staff, average collection of art compared to galleries in major cities, and a nice way to get out of the Lille sun/rain. TOP TIP: KEEP YOUR EUROSTAR TICKET - IT GIVES YOU A 2 FOR...More

Seems to be half price admission, or two for one, for Eurostar travellers. Great art gallery with some fabulous paintings by Picasso, Klimt, Breughel, Bosch and many more.

The audio commentary was one an ipod and no headphones available so you could hear people listening to this, which was very offputting. Also some of the pictures that had symbols against them, ie should have commentary, did not. I'd have liked more translations of...More

The art available for viewing was ok. Then I made the mistake of ordering a slice of pizza for lunch. Twenty-five minutes later I was finally served my meal. It was not worth the wait. I didn’t expect much but the wait was annoying when...More

The collection of Palais des Beaux Arts is interesting, although a bit limited when compared to other French cities. The infrastructure of the place seems to be decaying. Toilettes completely out of order. Deficient WiFi. The local café employs the grumpiest people in France. Kind...More

The Palais has plenty of worthwhile art, enough to fill a rainy afternoon like we had. However, it's the Beau Café which did its best to spoil our visit; given the weather, we planned to eat there, and called in at 12:50pm, only to find...More
