I happened upon this store and was so enchanted, I went back the next day. Whereas it is VERY disappointing that the PUBLIC's interest in books is waning, (therefore, Brentano's is no longer the bookstore it used to be,) it is a magnificent place with...More

I was completely mesmerised by the wonderfully festive and beautiful window display and simply had to see inside. Appears to be more of a card / knick-knacks / gift shop than for books but definitely worth a visit. In the UK we've got so many...More

Brentanos's used to be a good source for book lovers. It is now mainly a shop for greeting cards and gifts. The selection is good if you are interested in stocking up on cards and there is the occasional book that you may come across.

Although I live in Paris, this shop never fails to tempt with its choice of books in English on a Paris theme for all ages. Although it appears small at first glance, check out the selection of gift ideas, pictures and art de table items...More

Having lost my book en route to Paris, I was very pleased to find this shop. I was even more pleased to find a good selection of English publications amongst the French ones. The shop also sold souvenirs of a better quality than the usual...More

There are many, many, many souvenir shops in Paris, the vast majority of which sell the same cheap tat but Brentano's was a breath of fresh air. Billed as an American Bookstore it sells not only that but a wide array of quality, French-themed items...More

Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle
époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades,
and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here,
modern day workers continue to take advantage of the
legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th
century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and
cinemas sit side by side with French bistros
predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in
