Neighbourhood: Ile de la Cité / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.

Small, Old, and Beautiful
Nov 2021
LOVED this chapel (really, more like a small cathedral!). It was a little hard to get to, because the building that wraps around it also happens to be function city government building (Conciergerie) and it just a happened that a terrorist trial has been taking place for weeks. You have to walk around the side (east or west) of the island, then move to the center south of the chapel where you present your ticket, your vaccine pass, and are then admitted to the line near the chapel itself. Our wait was about 30 minutes but it was well worth it. Read up on its history, and prepare to marvel and the gorgeous stained glass window (14) as well as a rose window. These windows tell the story of Christ, the way the Church communicated back when people were poor and illiterate. There's not time limit. Take your time and see it all, soak it in! Begun in 1242, this chapel is HISTORY.

This church is really amazing. When you enter and see the glasses full of colours you will be shocked by its beatuty. The interesting thing is that inside the glasses is narrated more the 1000 scenes of the holy bible from genesis to jesus resuction! Also inside is stored the jesus crown of thorns!

Interesting but not a top 10 Paris venue
Nov 2021
The windows were very interesting but this really did not float my boat. You enter on the ground floor and go up a set of narrow stairs to the hall. IMHO -You can get most of the experience by Googling it without going there.

Lovely chapel - not worth wait and money
Nov 2021 • Couples
Not worth the wait and money. It's a lovely chapel but if you are just there for sightseeing, the entrance fee is way too overpriced.

Sacred Space
Oct 2021
This is not a huge space--basically one very lovely chapel-sized church with stained glass over a simpler downstairs worship area for non-royals. But the stained glass! Wow! The panels tell stories from the Old Testament on one side and the lives of saints on the other. I could say the windows are spectacular but that's an understatement. Despite the relatively small space, you could literally spend all day reading the picture stories and admiring the artisans' work. Combined with the restored fresco work, you know you are in a place that the workmen of 700 years ago considered worthy of their best skills.

One of my favourite churches
Nov 2021 • Couples
It is my favourite (besides cathedrals) as it has very special atmosphere. Also architecture and art work is great, but this atmosphere brings me back here. Not writing here about special history behind it.

Magical!!
Oct 2021 • Couples
Sainte Chapelle is finally having it’s day in the limelight now that neighboring Notre Dame is under construction. It is one of the most beautiful churches in the world.

Be sure to attend a classical music concert here, it is a wonderful experience.
