Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In Paris over the holidays. On my wife's birthday my family organized a private tour of the Maxim's Museum, including the restaurant and the private apartments above the restaurants.
All about Art Nouveau, original paintings, drawings, furniture, lamps and stain-glass windows from Tiffany, etc...
Everything is part of the accumulated collection of Pierre Cardin.

We also turned up at Maxims yesterday,Sunday but the restaurant was closed. Returned at 2.00 as suggested on website for tour in English. Not open. Nothing to suggest there was even an Art Nouveau museum inside. No signs on window of Maxims. Really annoying to go there twice for nothing.

What a waste of time. Open Wednesday to Sunday. 2.00pm English Speaking tour.
We turned up at 1.30, had an overpriced coffee in Maxims Cafe. Asked the Maitre'd wher tour started and he said outside the restaurant Entrance at 2.00. Wandered up at 1.45, 2.00pm came, 2.15? Three workers entered the Restaurant and nothing said even though they could clearly see we were waiting or are they actually that Ignorant or just Plain Stupid..I think the Latter. Eventually went into the Overpriced gift shop to be told that " Tour is Closed"? What a waste of Time. Will never go back even if they Reopen it as 2 year's ago we were here it was closed for Renovations. Maybe if they were a Professional Business they would put something about closure on their website. Thanks for nothing...and the Latte was below average!!!!!!!

A tour of the dining room and private rooms of Maxim. See the wonderful 18th Century rooms and the private Art Nouveau apartment/collection of the late Pierre Cardin. The collection and the epoc are brought to life by the enthousastic guide. You will see art treasures rarely seem as well as relive the belle epoc.

Very extensive collection presented with much love for this art form (Art Nouveau). It starts with a tour through the restaurant. Everything is 100% original which is unique in Paris and propels you back in time. It was a pleasant surprise that the tour of the restaurant was included. There are many beautiful items with a very knowledgeable guide who loves to share his inside knowledge. If you love Art Nouveau it is an absolute must.
There is no marketing for this beautiful gem. You need to be there in time, then the guide will open the door. Bad luck if you are late. He has to close the door because everything would be otherwise accessible.

Two of my sisters and a brother raved about this tour and how knowledgeable the gentleman tour guide was...We were very excited to experience this ourselves. Our tour was scheduled for 2pm and there were four of us standing out on the sidewalk at this time when a lady came hurrying down the street. She left us standing in the hot sun (87 degrees) while she went upstairs to 'open up'. Upon entering it was determined that the other couple did not have the cash required for entry and the man left to find a bank. We wandered around the bar area until 2:20, when the lady took us up several flights of stairs. At the top it was stifling hot and she proceeded to tell us who made a few of the pieces of furniture as we were ushered from room to room feeling rather rushed. During the tour I asked several questions and was given the answer "I don't know" each time. We received none of the anecdotes given to my family members (that were quite interesting) and in fact, when I asked my last question the lady said "I'm an actress, not a historian". The art pieces themselves were exquisite and it was pure joy just to see them, but it would have been nice to get some background. We found ourselves back in the lobby at 2:55 where we spent our last few minutes looking around the dining room of Maxim's. What a disappointing 'tour'. My suggestion is to make sure the gentleman is giving your tour.

Entry fee is 20 euros per person, you get a guided tour (2pm in English) and you can take as many photos as you want!

Before visiting this museum, I only knew Pierre Cardin from his underwear brand. Turns out he's an avid collector as well. We were guided by Veronique Fourcaud, who's actually an actress. She knows the history of the collections pretty well, although she says she's not actually an expert.

On the day I visited, it was the first day for the Marlene Dietrich exhibition, so we got a glimpse before the actual exhibition (which was gonna start at 6pm I think).

The entry fee is indeed pretty expensive, so if you're not interested in Art Nouveau, I don't think you should go. Me and my friend really liked Art Nouveau and we were highly impressed by the collection and especially the meanings behind some pieces.

Souvenir shop is next door, and sells from cheap to expensive. There're chocolates, foie gras in a can, canvas bag, makeup bag/pencil case, wine, etc. The male employee was very friendly and speaks good English as well!

Oh, and if you plan on spending money for fine dining, you might also want to try the restaurant, which opens for dinnertime. I saw some of the menu and I think it can easily cost you 100++ euros, but if you want to splurge, then feel free.

I absolutely love this artistic period of only 15 short years and for lovers of At Nouveau this is a must. The collection is haphazardly presented but charming. I feel like I am at someone's grandma's place. The curator is delightfully over the top. Make sure you turn up at 2pm for the English tour which is essential for this collection. The door is locked to you otherwise! It's expensive (20 E) but worth the cost!

In 40 minutes I learned more about Art Nouveau, the Belle Epoque lifestyle and Maxim's restaurant than I thought possible. If you are English, show up at 2:00pm most days, and the head of the museum will take you around (on my day, there were only two of us with him). The numerous objects, furniture, clothing and interior decoration are all authentic, and this collection of Pierre Cardin is now housed in the second and third floor apartment above the restaurant, where the owner lived. Learn also about the successful courtesan's lifestyle, and how the restaurant got the necessary finances to become the sumptuous restaurant it is today. The curator is very informative; but ask questions to get a fuller picture. He can easily expand on any of the areas that he touches upon.
